After a year at the University of Idaho in Moscow and a semester at College of Idaho in Caldwell, he dropped out of school and became a disc jockey in Idaho in the fall of 1968. "I got real tired of college, and they were actually paying me money to sit on my ass and play Buddy Holly records, which seemed like a real good deal to me," he explains.

He started at KCID in Caldwell and moved seven times in six years to Moscow, then Boise, Idaho; Spokane; San Bernardino, California; Moscow again; Seattle; and Boston. He was fired several times, once when a Volkswagen dealer threatened to sue the station and Lujack. The dealer claimed that Lujack implied after a commercial that his dealership was "a cover for an underground Nazi movement in this country." 3300 West Irving Park Rd. Chicago, IL 60618 7340 S. And he has shown a willingness to adjust his show to the new competition." It is, however, a struggle for Lujack to get motivated after 26 years in the business. Lujack unwraps a Bit O' Honey and stuffs it into his mouth.

After a long silence, he says: "He is motivated now only by a sense of being, urn, fair, to his employer. If his employer is going to pay him a lot of money to do a job, then Mr. Lujack, being the honorable-type guy that he is, is going to do his very best. Even though Mr. Lujack, were he a jerk, could come in and just coast through the next few years.

Plus, the other motivation is just basic pride. If I'm gonna do something, I want to do it the best I can do it. So those are the only motivational factors that enter into the picture at this point in my toasted life." He chews his Bit 0' Honey thoughtfully. "I think that if I had my life to do all over again, I would not do this. I think that I made a bad decision.

But then, you know, that's hypothetical. I think that probably I think I would have been much happier, and much poorer, but much happier had I stuck with my original goal of working for the Idaho Fish and Game Department. What I really wanted to do was be one of those guys who go around banding ducks on the wildlife preserve and shooting tranquilizer darts into grizzly bears and clipping tags on their ears. And flying around in the winter, with binoculars, estimating the size of the elk herds." He forms binoculars with bis hands, peers through them, and smiles. "I like that kind of stuff." Larry Lee Lujack, the oldest of four children, was born in Quasqueton, Iowa, and moved to Caldwell, Idaho, when he was 13.

His father, a Ph D. in horticulture, worked for a seed company, developing sweet-corn hybrids. Lu jack's parents were divorced when he was 19.1 In high school Lujack was the star quar 6600 N. Western Avenue Chicago. II 60645 6333 Northwest Hwy.

Another son, Tony, 18, and a daughter, Linda, 20, are students at the University of Idaho. Lujack met Judith Solberg in 1971, when he was making personal appearances in connection with a radio serial called "The Tooth Fairy." Jude, a Chicago fashion model, was cast as a Tooth Fairy helper, who handed out tooth stickers, big teeth filled with gum, and official Tooth Fairy membership cards.

They got married in December of 1972. As usual, Lujack did not stand on ceremony: The couple spent their honeymoon Christmas-shop-ping at SduLUinburg's Woodfield Mall. Jude has a son by a previous marriage, Taber, now 14. The three of them still reside in Jude's Palatine home. From the outside, the house is wiremarkable- a mixture of suburban brick and quasi-Swiss chalet.

There are several spindly trees in which Lujack takes great pride, his wife says, although be says he doesn't know what species they are. 7050 W.
