Albans for 30 years. Salvation Army official dies The head of the Salvation Army in Burlington died Tuesday at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont. Major Charles W. Brant had headed the Burlington operation since arriving with his wife, Sandra, in 1990. Brant, 46, of Curtis Avenue had been active in the community, including the Burlington Rotary Club.

The family has suggested contributions be made to a fund in Brant's name, in care of the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 5120, Burlington, Vt. 05401. A service will be held at 7 tonight at the North Avenue Alliance Church in Burlington. The funeral will be 1 1 a.m.

Friday in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Lindol Atkins, a member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Local 1343. "I don't want anybody to think that I'm sitting here agreeing." Department heads have submitted budgets for the upcoming fiscal year that include a 5 percent spending reduction. 25, 1910, she was the daughter of Frederick N. and Grace (Stilson) Dean of Monkton. She attended Beeman Academy in New Haven. She married Russell Little on Aug. 8, 1932, in Hinesburg.

He predeceased her. Mrs. Little owned and operated Little's Cash Market on the Shelbume Falls Road in Shelbume for 23 years. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Shelbume, former member of Shelbume Homemakers, and was on the Shelbume Town Republican Committee for a number of years. She had also been an active member of Charlotte Grange 398.

Mrs. Little is survived by her daughter, Lynda White, and her husband, Jerry, of Savannah, with whom she had been living; a son, Lynn Little, and his wife, Donna, of Ocala, 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one aunt, Mildred Christian of Lake Worth, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, June, at birth; three sisters, Helen Burbank, Ruth Hathaway, and Nettie Goodroe; and one brother, Forrest Dean. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 71 S.

Union Burlington, with burial in Shelbume Village Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Vermont Regional Cancer Center, 1 S. Prospect Burlington, Vt. 05401.

MILDRED J. NOBLE PETERBOROUGH, N.H. Mildred J. Noble, 89, passed away on April 8, 1993, at the Pheasant Wood Nursing Home in Peterborough where she had resided for the last three years. Born on June 12, 1903, in Agawan, the daughter of Harris W.

and Emma (Nelson) Noble, she was a 1925 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Mount Holyoke College. Miss Noble also received a master of arts degree from the University of Illinois and, in 1949, a master of science degree from Boston University. After teaching English in Virginia and at Mount Holyoke for several years, she dedicated the major part of her professional life to psychiatric social work in Boston and Peterborough. Despite great personal tragedies and poor health, she gave of herself totally and unselfishly to her students, to her patients, and to her friends, all of whom were the fortunate beneficiaries of her love and understanding, as were the needy cats that over the years found with her a home. In private life she enjoyed mountain climbing, bicycling and camping.

Her happiest memories were of the many summers she spent on Kibbe Point in South Hero. Miss Noble is survived by several close friends united in thankful celebration of her long and productive life. Rene was born in Highgate, Dec. 21, 1917, the son of the late Theophile and Imelda (Boucher) Rainville. He attended schools in St. Armand, Quebec, and on Aug. 30, 1947, he married the former Jeanne d'Arc Jette, who survives him.

In addition to his wife of Swanton, Rene is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerard and Lori Rainville of Moreno Valley, and Norman and Martha Rainville of St. Albans; two daughters and sons-in-law, Francine and Joseph Rampe of Milton and Es-telle and Douglas Hunt of Fishkill, N.Y.; four brothers, Maurice Rainville of Swanton, Jean Louise and Raymond Rainville of Highgate, and Wilfred Rainville of Franklin; two sisters, Mrs. Hyacinthe (Marguerite) Beaulieu of Highgate and Mrs. Ulys (Helene) Parent of Enos-burg; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Em-ile and Henry Rainville, and two sisters, Mrs.

Yvonne Reil and Mrs. Marie Anne Desany. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Nativity with interment following in the family lot in St. Mary's Cemetery.

ELSIE ELIZABETH FOX MORRISVILLE Elsie Elizabeth Fox, 89, died Tuesday, April 20, 1993, in McKerley Healthcare Center following a short illness.

She was born Sept. 5, 1903, the daughter of George W. and Grace (Ward) Sprinkle. On March 15, 1925, she was married to Leno Fox, and in 1930 they moved to California, where she worked as a personal maid for Adrianne Ames, a movie star. She was also a traveling companion for Mrs.

Marcus Lowe, owner of Lowes Theaters, doing extensive traveling in Europe. In later years she moved back to Vermont to become a cook for two boys camps, Camp Highland and Camp Beaver Lake. She also cooked at Copley Hospital. She was an avid sports fan. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.

She is survived by a daughter, Marion Fox Clegg of Morrisville; three grandchildren, Michael Lan-gdell, and his wife, Sharon, John Clegg and his wife, Belinda, and Valerie Ann Clegg; three great-grandchildren, Maryann, Christopher and Brian Langdell; two sisters, Mildred Chaney and Helen Marley; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Leno, April 19, 1942. Private family services will be today. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Salvation Army or Giddeon Society for bibles. Funerals Held ROYAL M. GIBBO JR. Royal M. Gibbo 69, of Scarff Burlington, died suddenly Tuesday, April 20, 1993, at his home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, and a complete obituary will appear in Thursday's Burlington Free Press.

Arrangements are by Ready Funeral Home, South Chapel, 261 Shelbume Road, Burlington. FRANCESE M. DAVIS NORTHFIELD Francese M. Davis, 91, of 5 Jefferson died at the Mayo Resident Home on Tuesday morning. She had been a resident there since April 7, 1993.

She was born in Stowe, Sept. 30, 1901, the daughter of Charles L. and Amy (Mayo) Per-vier. She married George N. Davis, Nov.

17, 1925, who died Jan. 30, 1980. She and her husband owned and operated The Davis Auto Service in Northfield Center from 1928 to 1970. She was a member of the United Church of Northfield, Northfield Historical Society, and was a member and past matron of the Naomi chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Ruth Davis of North-field; five grandchildren, Vernon Davis of Barre, Marie Chilson of Northfield, Nancy DiMasi of Burlington, Andrew Davis of Annapolis, and Thomas Davis of Amherst, 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A son, Ronald Davis, predeceased her in 1969. Memorial services will be conducted at a later date. Burial will be in the family lot in Mount Hope Cemetery in Northfield at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made to the Northfield Memorial Park, in care of the Town Clerk, Northfield, Vt. 05663.

Kingston Funeral Home in North-field in charge of arrangements. LORENZO CRIFFO NEW HAVEN Lorenzo Grif-fo, 95, died Monday, April 19, 1993, at Helen Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury. He was born Oct. 12, 1897, in Bergeggi, Italy, the son of Augusti-no and Maria (Mandracia) Griffo. Lorenzo had resided in New York City most of his life where he worked in various restaurants as a waiter and cook.

He moved to New Haven in 1986 to be with his daughter, after his wife's passing. Surviving is one son, Mario Griffo of Long Island, N.Y.; one daughter, Emily Kertis of New Haven; one brother, Emilio Griffo of Italy; and seven grandchildren including one grandson, Mike Kertis of New Haven. Calling hours will be Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Sanderson Funeral Home, 117 S. Main Middlebury, with a prayer service to be conducted at 2 p.m.

Albans. Prior to his moving to Swanton eight years ago, Rene lived many years on Fairfield Street in St. Albans and was associated for 30 years as an auto mechanic for Paquin Motors. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army and Cards of Thanks The family of Charlotte "Lottie" Wheelock wishes to extend their appreciation and thanks to the friends, relatives, and neighbors for the cards, food, and kindnesses shown during the illness and death of Charlotte.

We also would like to thank Dr. John Lantman, and the staff at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont for the wonderful care they gave Charlotte. The family of Charlotte Wheelock Johnstone, Public Works director. The city might strive to clear snow from the main streets in stead of all roads, he said. Nervous city employees are anxious to know what Brownell's plans are for their jobs.

Brownell said he was impressed Tuesday to learn that many employees are concerned about how the cuts will affect the public. By the end of May, Brownell's draft budget will be available. The City Council will then hold hearings before adopting a budget in June. Typically, budget hearings draw a sparse turnout from the nnhlir- Rut this vear. Rrnwnpll said he expects residents to fight for their favorite programs and services.

Morin, 65, died at his home in Fearrington Village, Pittsboro, Saturday, April 3, 1993, after a lingering illness. He was born in Burlington, the son of Marie and Leo Morin. Mr. Morin, in addition to his beloved wife, Norma, leaves his daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Gregory Luongo of East Boston, son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Molly Morin, and grandson, Travis, of Coral Gables, grandson, Matthew Hinds of Miami, sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and John Burrie, of Lighthouse Point, sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Robert Smith of North Ft. Readings from scripture were proclaimed by Barbara's three children, Cece Wick, Virginia Zaboronek, and William T. Counos II. Music was offered by organist Mrs.

'All YOU CAN Death Notices and MARION DAVIS Marion Davis, 94, formerly of South Union Street, Burlington, died Tuesday, April 20, 1993, at Burlington Convalescent Center following a prolonged illness. She was born Aug. 14, 1898, in Hinesburg, the daughter of Edward and Ella (Roy) Severance.

She was a graduate of Burlington High School and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. For numerous years she worked at Bessie's Newsstand on Church Street in Burlington. Marion is survived by one niece, Eleanor Thomas Stanlis of Rockford, III. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 71 S.

Union Burlington. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Burlington. MAJOR CHARLES W.

BRANT JR. Major Charles William Brant 46, of Curtis Avenue, Burlington, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, April 20, 1993, at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont. Major Charles William Brant Jr. was born Feb. 8, 1947.

He was called by God to serve as a Salvation Army officer. His main goal in life was to share the good news of the gospel with his fellow man and hopefully bring them to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. He entered the Salvation Army Training College at Suffern, N.Y., in 1971, out of the Old Orchard Beach (Maine) Corps. He was commissioned as a lieutenant in June 1973 and appointed to serve in the Philadelphia Temple Corps, Pennsylvania. Since then he had appointments in Houlton, Maine; Augusta, Maine; Laconia, N.H.; and in 1990, he was appointed to command the Burlington, Vermont Corps.

He was able to humbly serve his fellow man in deepest need and was recognized by his fellow Rotarians by being named a Paul Harris Fellow. Among other things, Major Brant was a proud member of the Burlington Rotary Club, the Burlington Area Evangelical Ministerial Association, and served as a member of the Samaritan Connection Advisory Council. Major Brant was a very generous and giving man and even in his passing, gave to the New England Organ Bank, in a desire to continue the Gift of Life. The Major leaves his wife of 25 years, Sandra; daughter, Sarah; and son Charles W. II "Casey," whom he loved with a great caring and sacrificial love.

He is also survived by his mother, Emma Brant, and several sisters and brothers. A memorial service will be held today at 7 p.m. in the North Avenue Alliance Church. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Salvation Army in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, with interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco, Maine.

Visiting hours are Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. in Dennett, Craig and Paite Funeral Home, 365 Main Saco, Maine. In lieu of flowers, it is the family's wish that contributions may be made to the Major Charles W. Brant Jr. Memorial Fund, in care of the Salvation Army, P.O.
