Prince Vittorio, who had had a previous unhappy matrimonial experience with a Danish beer heiress, took only 10 days after meeting Dawn for the first time to make his formal proposal of mar- riage. "We met in funny circumstances," Dawn tells those who ask her how she came to know Vittorio. I was on location at Formia, on the coast south of Rome, with the company shooting underwater scenes.

In January, 1954, she had to go to Frankfurt to be present at the first showing of "The Moon Is Blue," in which Dawn plays the amusing role of the girl upstairs. From Frankfurt Dawn went to London for a visit with her relatives there. Vittorio cabled her that he would join her there to discuss their marriage.

Dawn went to meet him off the boat-train at Victoria station, but she missed him, and he went off in a taxi. Dawn waited for. the next train, and still another. She checked the main hotels, finally located him in the Park Lane. The prince cabled her father in California for his consent to the wedding, and got it.
