Altoona April 17,1985 Page AS Mudslide derails Amtrak's Zephyr, injuring 26 GRANBY, Colo. (UPI) Amtrak's California Zephyr hit a 100- yard mudslide, jumped the tracks NallUlldl and four cars plunged into a remote mountain canyon, injuring 26 of the 147 people aboard, authorities said. Amtrak officials said five injured people were evacuated by air after the Tuesday night crash, including two apparently suffering heart attacks. One Amtrak worker was admitted to Timberline Medical Cen- ter- in Granby with unknown injuries. "The injuries include four crew said Amtrak spokesman Clifford Black in Washington.

"We don't have the conditions of any of the injured, but.we're,told.the in-. juries range from cuts and bruises to bone fractures." Black said seven bf the train's 14 cars left the track and four landed in the Fraser River. State Patrol dispatcher Penny Dibble in'Hot Sulphur Springs, said the accident occurred about 10:30 p.m. EST in Fraser Canyon, between Granby arid Tabernash in the craggy north-central Colorado Rockies, about 55 miles bf Denver. "It was caused by a 100-yard mudslide," Dibble said.

The trails two engines landed in the river on their sides, followed by two two baggage cars. A sleeper, used mainly as a dormitory for crew members, jumped the track next and- ended up sideways across the rails, Black said. "Then we have the first sleeping car, which derailed and is leaning off the track as if it were a ship off keel. "Then there's the first coach, which is off the track but upright and in line," he said. "The balance of the train which is seven cars consisting of three coaches, a dining car a lounge car and two 'sleeping cars, none of which derailed was used to carry the passengers and crew back to Granby.

They were pulled by a Denver Rio Grande Western Railroad freight engine, which was in Granby at the time of the accident. "This site is nearly inaccessible by anything but a railroad vehicle," Black said. "There's no road. It's a narrow canyon but the railroad bed is not high above the river. "The track's'highest point is-maybe 10 or 15 feet above the water: But the canyon walls do rise quite high above the railroad." Governor considers 'rapist 1 CHICAGO (UPI) Gov; James Thompson is ready to consider the issue of clemency for a convicted rapist whose alleged victim now says he did not rape her, and he says he will weigh her lie detector test if' it is submitted.

Thompson, urged lawyers for Gary Dotson Tuesday to file the clemency petition. He said He- is prepared to read court transcripts and consider results of lie-detector test taken by Cathleen Crowell Webb, the New woman who recanted her original testimony that Dotson raped her. Webb, 1C old when she made the charge, took a lie-detector test on Saturday attorney- says is evidence she is telling the truth. Lie-detecior tests are not admissible in Illinois courts. But Thompson said, "Lie-detector tests, are admissible in a commutation hearing.

"I have no suppositions going into this," he said. Dotson, 28, of suburban Country Club Hills, has already served six years of a 25- to 50-year prison term leveled against him following his 1979 rape and kidnapping conviction. "So far, I have received no petition for executive clemency and neither has the (Illinois Prison Review) board," Thompson said at a news conference. Thompson said he has been "besieged" with inquiries regarding the "In rny eight years as governor, few matters have generated more public opinion than this case," he said. He repeated his contention, however, that he will not be swayed by public opinion, which is "overwhelmingly in favor of releasing Dotson." "I would not let public opinion railroad someone into jail 1 just as I would not public opinon get someone out of jaiU" Thompson said.

"I don't have to sit and wait for the board to make a decision in Hie cose. But we can't do anything uniil Gary Dotson's attorneys come to us," he said. A-Cook County Circuit judge lasl week refused to believe the new testimony of Webb, 23, who claimed she concocted the rape charge because she feared she was pregnant after having sex with her boyfriend. Missing boy's skeleton found at his house LOS ANGELES (UPI) A skeleton found in a crawl space under a house was identified Tuesday as the remains of a 14-year-old boy reported missing 23 years ago, authorities said. Coroner's spokesman Bill Gold said the skeleton, which was discovered during a remodeling project March 28 was identified as J.ames David Gilmore, 14.

The teenager was last seen Jan. 7, 1962. His mother, Donna Jean Gilmore, reported him missing three days later. The boy's remains were found by a worker repairing a vacant home in the Baldwin Park district. The worker was checking under the raised foundation and saw a tennis shoe sticking out of the ground.

When he checked further, he discovered a partially buried human skeleton. The Gilmores had lived in the house from 1959 to 1974, Deputy Mike Ford said. Mrs. Gilmore, who now lives in San Diego, told KCBS-TV Tuesday that her son walked out of the house- that January day arid she never saw him again. "I keep thinking that he'll walk in the house, but it will never happen," she said.

The skeleton was identified by a team of forensic dentists, pathologists and anthropologists, Gold said. "Based on circumstantial evidence, physical evidence, a photograph of the youth, clothing and a relative's statement we have made the said.
