F. L. Today mmiHnn ti rmmimmii mm i almost everybody. Christmas music and singing there's lots of, on all channels. Christmas church services, too.

And special after special with yule themes, from a holiday party being staged on the home screens tonight by the late Walt Disney's cartoon characters to what most assuredly will be a splendid re-telling ef the story of Christmas tomorrow by that distinguished new star of show business and old star of politics. Sen. Everett McKinley Dirksen of Illinois. We're not going to try, here, to list all the holiday programs being offered this year; we have columns of type elsewhere which do that. What we want to do is sort of act as a guide to some of the more unusual video offerings this Christmas.

First, the shows today, Christmas eve. The Disney hour is one. on NBC and channel 5 from 6:30 to 7:30 p. m. That urbane pen-and-ink insect, Jiminy Crickett, assisted by the world's most famous rodent, Mickey Mouse, will present a Christmas show made up of film clips from such famous Disney feature-length cartoons as "Pinocchio," "Peter Pan," "Bambi," and "Cinderella," plus a portion of a new Disney treat, "The Jungle Book." The same station, WMAQ-TV, will offer a 30-minute special of its own making, featuring the Winnetka Presbyterian Church Chancel choir in a program of Christmas music, at 10:30 tonight.

CBS-TV channel 2 here from 11 to midnight tonight airs a rush-special depicting Christmas eve as it is in Viet Nam, with the cameras visiting an orphanage, wandering thru Saigon and out to the battle zones, and watching as American fighting men attend church services. ABC-TV channel 7 among its yule offerings will re-broadcast tonight 6-71 its award-winning "Christ is Born," a magnificent special filmed in the Holy Land and Rome by John and Helen Secondari, and narrated by actor-director John Huston. First telecast Dec. 7, 1966, it was repeated last Christmas day. Another outstanding ABC offering, this one new to the home screens, will be "The Shephardes Playe," a Christmas opera drawn from texts of the middle ages, and set to music by the Pulitzer prize-winning composer, John La Montaine.

Taped in the Washington cathedral, the opera, which deals with Christ's birth and the shepherds' Journey to see the Holy Child, will occupy channel 7 from 10:30 to 11:30 tonight. WGN-TV, Chicago's independent channel 9, is leaning heavily to Christmas music in its programming today, music extra-interesting because most of it is sung by Chicago area singers. AT 9:30 A. M. today, channel 9 offers a half-hour recital by the Madrigal Singers of Naperville's North Central college, appearing in authentic 16th century costumes.

From 1:30 to 2 p. the station presents the award-winning concert choir of Olympia Fields' Rich Central High school, The Singing Olympians. Both programs were produced at WGN-TV. And tonight, from 9 to 10, channel 9 off ers the precision- The Sound Music and radio: for young listeners jjm, mm mm1 by James Holvay and Gary Beisbier (COLUilBIA RECORDS) Warwick doesn't hesitate one second when asked what the biggest thrill of her singing career has been. ILesiFin a MM "Singing in the Academy Awards presenta tions last April," she answers quickly.

"You just have to be a part of it to explain it." The experience really roust have stood out in her mind for here's a singer who has performed at the Olympia in Paris, the Palladium in London, Lincoln Center in New York, and just about every major concert hall and night club from the east to west coasts of the United States. clad, precision-voiced cadet glee club of the United States Military academy in a special choral concert. Channel 11, Chicago's enterprising educational station, is getting into the act, too. Among its Christmas eve offerings will be 7:30 p. m.l Dr.

Frank Baxter reading a Christmas story. The Public Broadcasting Laboratory's usual two-hour Sunday night PBL telecast will not be offered because of the holiday. Now, Christmas day. If you're up in time, Hugh Downs Today show on NBC 7-9 a. m.

on Christmas morning will be an unusual, two-hour Christmas visit to The Cloisters, the unit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City which houses the foremost collection of medieval art in America. Tomorrow, Today will focus upon those pieces of the collection which relate specifically to Christmas. At noon tomorrow, on channel 7, comes the solon with Jhe golden throat, Sen. Dirksen. With family and friends seated around him in his Virginia home, named "Heart's Desire," Dirksen, whose hesitantly-made recordings have turned into surprise smash hits, will tell the story of Christmas in this hour-long color special.

AT one point, he "reads," against a musical background, a carol to his wife of 40 years, Louella. This unique glimpse into the private world of one of the nation's most respected statesmen is bound to be one of the best shows of the holiday. Altho not exactly a Christmas show, one program on CBS and channel 2 tomorrow afternoon would be welcome any day. It is the first of this season's New York Philharmonic Young People's concerts with Leonard Bernstein, and it will focus upon the music of old Vienna. Air time, 4 to 5 p.

m. An hour of Christmas music will highlight WGN-TV programming Christmas morning. From 9 to 9:30 a. the station will present the Blue Jackets choir with old favorites, and for the next half hour the 80-voice choir of William and Mary college in Williamsburg, in a concert from Williamsburg. i Tempo with beat Kcyef Psaafor Bb Bb Hey Ba-bgr they're ploy-In ear eons Am Gm7 C7 Trie one sve need to near when we used to let Monf Bb Bb Hey.

y-s ft Vr L.Sw! Dionno Warwick Even in a wild and unpredictable business, The Buckinghams are a phenomenal group. First of all, they're from Chicago, home of some great musicians, but a place that record company officials may see only in passing from the west coast to the east. Second, they made it with their first record. But even that was crazy. The record, "Kind of a Drag," was cut for a small company, and took eight months to inch its way up on the charts to number one position.

Columbia signed them next, and then they were lucky enough to get James William Guercio as manager-arranger-producer-conductor. Jim has been fine-tuning the quintet's special combination of vocal innocence sweet, pure singing and complicated musical backing that has become the Buckingham sound. 1967 Bag'of TuMi he, taee by penuraioe Copyftght t9t7 Spain Syndicate, Ja Clip for Your Scrapbooh On stage she has total involvement with the songs she sings. "Some people have said that at times I don't even seem to be in the same room with them," she says. "It's just that I'm lost in the song." Miss Warwick has two of the best songwriters in the business working with her Burt Bacharach and Hal David, who discovered her in 1961 when she was doing a background session for the Drifters.

They asked if she'd be interested in doing demonstration records, but at the time she was attending Hartt College of Music in Hartford, was studying music education, and wasn't interested. Finally she cut her first record, "Don't Make Me Over," which was a hit. "I feel very close to that record because it started it all for me," she says. "Gospel singing has been the biggest contributor to my being the kind of singer I am," she says. She was in a gospel group once, sang in church choirs, and still sings in New Hope Baptist church in Newark, N.

when possible. Besides making records, and night club, concert, radio and television appearances, she has had Broadway offers, but doesn't think she's ready for it yet. Right now she's playing an engagement in Washington, D. after a stint here at Mister Kelly's. From Washington, it's to Puerto Rico, Boston, Miami, New York, Los Angeles, and "by that time, it will be next December."
