The Dow-Jones industrials rose 5.72 points to 1023.93. Earlier in the session, it was up nearly nine points after rumors the South Vietnamese were preparing for what they considered an imminent cease-fire. "The Vietnam situation is making the market move," said John Smith, analyst for Fahnestock Co. Some of the profit-taking pressure that had eroded market gains throughout the week appeared to be lessening, brokers noted. They also said that trading Friday was the heaviest of the week, indicating that buyers were stepping in as prices rose.
