The biography inspired a little Broadway musical called Hamilton . Now, 11 Tony Awards later, Chernow’s book zooms up USA TODAY’s Best-Selling Books list to No. 8, its highest ranking ever. Also benefiting from a post-Tonys glow is Hamilton: The Revolution , a companion volume to the show by Manuel and Jeremy McCarter. It’s back in the top 50 at No. 26. Chernow’s book w as an instant best seller back in 2004. Late last year, Alexa nder Hamilton had a resurgence, returning to the top 50 in November thanks to the Broadway smash. It’s been in the top 40 since May. As for Hamilton: The Revolution , there are now more t han 500,000 copies in print — enough to meet consumer demand. The co ee table-style b ook landed at No. 3 on April 21, b ut copies immediately sold out. Acult hit: Emma Cline’s fascination with Charles Manson —and the female acolytes who surrounded him — has translated i nto a USA TODAY best seller. H er debut novel, The Girls , about a14-year-old girl drawn into a cult in 1969 California, lands at No. 9. The critical response t o the much- h yped book has b een decidedly mixed. USA TODAY gave it eeg out of four (“in the end, it’s an exercise that f eels empty”), and The New York Times ’ reviewer also was left disappointed (“her book simply collapses”); Entertainment Weekly , however, gave The Girls an “A.” Jocelyn McClurg BOOK BUZZ NEW ON THE LIST AND IN PUBLISHING
