(AP) - The art of bathing is a lost one, says Sam Bloom, master plumber, after an 18-day European trip to examine ancient bathing sites. "It used to be that the bathroom was the center of living — the most important part of ;he house," Bloom said. "Sanitation and cleanliness were more than just a passing fancy with the Romans and Greeks. It's too bad we can't build bathrooms today the size they used in those countries." Bloom visited the Baths of Caracalla outside Rome; the public and private baths of Athens; the Minaon baths on Crete; bathing facilities in Pompeii; the Baden-Baden baths in West Germany; the Moorish baths in Spain, the supply and drainage facilities under the Barcelona City Hall; the 18th century bathing facilities in the Versailles Palace near Paris and the Roman baths in Bath, England. "I was impressed that pipes and fixtures installed centuries ago still are in use in some of the baths," he said.
