Th«j Paris N*ws, M.. March 13, IMS 11A People SARAH CALDWELL TOM SELLECK TINA TURNER Selleck: Kissing scenes not fun HONOLULU (AP) - Heart-throb actor Tom Selleck of television's Magnum P.I. says all those kissing scenes can be embarrassing. "I don't get a big kick out of kissing or being in bed with somebody with a hundred people looking on," Selleck said. Discussing a scene from his recent film, Runaway, he said recently, "Cynthia Rhodes and I had to literally kiss for about maybe 15 minutes. It can get very embarrassing. The cameras kept rolling and we had to continue kissing. And I mean, just kissing. "Then there are also things you don't want to show and they say 'Well, the sheet got too low, we gotta pull it up.' It's very technical." Tina receives standing ovation LONDON (AP) — Tina Turner headed into the last lap of a world tour with a sell-out concert at 10,000-seat Wembley Arena. The 46-year-old singer got standing ovations after a high-powered show Thursday night in which she prowled the stage like a lioness in skin-tigh; black leather and a tawny mane of a wig. The marathon tour began in the United States last July. Going from coast to coast, it then took her on to Australia and is due to wind up in Lisbon on April 16 after a 36-city swing through Europe. At Wembley, she performed songs that have won her six Grammies — What's Love Got to Do with It? Private Dancer, I Can't Stand the Rain — as well as classics including Proud Mary, River Deep, Mountain High, and her gut-wrenching version of the Beatles' Help. Sarah Caldwell recuperating BOSTON (AP) — Sarah Caldwell, artistic director of the Opera Company of Boston, plans to continue recuperating in Florida from double pneumonia that's kept her hospitalized for more than two months, the opera company said. Miss Caldwell, 61, was released Thursday from Spaulding Rehabilitative Hospital, where she was undergoing therapy after treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital, said opera spokesman James Morgan. Miss Caldwell, the company's artistic director since it was founded 26 years ago, said in a statement, "I look forward to coming back to Boston and getting back to work." The opera season, which was to open Feb. 3 with The Makrppulos Case by Janacek, has been postponed indefinitely, Morgan said. About 750 members of the Teresa Brewer fan club pledged $1 to $25 toward a new star for Miss Brewer, 53, one of the first recording artists to have a star placed in the sidewalk, publicist Frank Lieberman said Thursday. The New York resident's time- and foot-worn 1961 star was "in pretty bad shape," Lieberman said. The rededication effort was originated by a fan in Connecticut, he said. Miss Brewers hits included Sweet Old Fashioned Girl and Music Music Music. She also starred in the film Three Redheads from Seattle. (AP) — Drugs seem to help some people deal with their problems but then make them worse, first lady Nancy Reagan said as she received an award for for her crusade against teen-age drug abuse. The United Service Organization presented Mrs. Reagan with its Distinguished American Award, a crystal eagle head, before a star- studded audience Thursday night. "From traveling and talking to young people all over the country, I've learned one reason they turn to drugs is the need to belong," Mrs. Reagan said. "Drugs somehow seem to ease alienation and isolation, before eventually making it worse." judgment was the largest ever awarded in Bexar County. He added that Manges, as part of fhe agreementj-has dismissed suits that'he had filed against Ingram, a San Antonio Light newspaper reporter and the paper's owners, the Hearst Corp., in connection with the handling and reporting of the bank's suit.
