Theater Broadway Bound • Theater performances — Kid's Art Centre Theatre and Broadway Bound School of Performing Arts will present "Babes in Arms" July 9-10 at Strand Theatre, 2317 Ship's Mechanic Row in Galveston. The production will be at 7 p.m. July 9-10 and 2 p.m. July 10. Tickets are $5 and $10. The 1930s-era musical is cast with children ages 7 to 15 and is directed by Andree Langlois, the artistic director of Kid's Art Centre Theatre. "Babes in Arms" is the finished product of Kid's ACT'S Galveston county summer camp. Participants in Kid's ACT Clear Lake camp also will have a camp this year, an original musical, "Sleeping Beauty." The auditions for the camp will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Gloria Dei Life Centre, 18820 Upper Bay Road in Nassau Bay. Galveston Outdoor Musicals • "Will Rogers Follies" — "Will Rogers Follies" is Galveston Island Outdoor Musicals' current production about Will Rogers, the American icon who lassoed his way into the hearts of Americans with his commonsense philosophy and good-natured humor. The musical, subtitled "A Life in Revue," recounts Rogers' rise to fame. In his early days, he set out. for Argentina to master the tricks of the cowboy. He went on ,to star with Florenz Ziegfeld's Follies and later went, to Hollywood. Strand Theatre Victor Lang will continue to delight visitors with his true stories of the people, politics and society of Galveston throughout the past 100 years in "Tales of Galveston." In this one-man show, Lang describes the city that suffered the 1900 Storm and the "Sin City" that Galveston was during the era of gambling and entertainment in the Balinese Room. From Lang's years working in the political arena as a congressional aide and a lobbyist in the private sector come his stories and anecdotes for "Washington: Fact & Fable." Houston scenes Art Car Museum "Urban Frontier Artist" is an exhibition of recent works by Jesse Lott. It features sculptural and collaged works in paper, steel and wood by the nationally celebrated Houston artist. "Response Time: Artists in Action" features work by the Houston artists Mel Chin, Leamon Green, Bert Long, Jesse Lott, Rick Lowe, Angelbert Metoyer, Floyd Newsum, Burt Samples and George Smith. "The Doom Buggy," by Monty Cantsin and Sam Houston, draws attention to the bloodshed in Kosovo. Also, the following art cars will be on display at the museum: • Rex Rabbit, by Larry Fuente, a tribute to the dark side of the Easter bunny, consists of a 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit diesel bedecked in poly- ester fur, polystyrene foam, wood, stuffed animals and plastic toys. • Faith, David Best's highly modified 1984 Camaro, features full-suspension hydraulics, a customized body and sports the trophy head of a Cape Buffalo for a hood ornament. • Shake Yer Groove Thang, by Rebecca Bass and her students from Bellaire High School, is a classic decorated car and a homage to the art of Alfonso Ossorio and Larry Fuente. It won People's Choice in the 1999 Art Car Parade. • The Jet Car, by Jim Robertson, consists of a 1983 Honda Accord reshaped with welded one quarter-inch steel plates to resemble a futuristic conveyance.
