Harry E. Conion, President Ray Ragelis, 54, ex-basketball star By Kenan Heise RAY RAGELIS, 54, an All-American Northwestern University basketball center in 1951, led the Big 10 in scoring that. year and once set a single game school scoring record of 36 points. He later coached at Lake Forest College, Northwestern and at East Chicago Washington High School, in East Chicago, Ind. Mass for Mr.

Ragelis, a resident of East Chicago, will be said at 9:30 a.m. Friday in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 3810 Grand East Chiin West Side Veterans Hospitanda Mr. Ragelis played basketball at East Chicago Washington High School and won all-state honors in his last years. He was later selected Indiana High School two, Silver Anniversary He also won high school letters in baseball and football.

Ragelis, who was only 6-foot-4, was the starting center for Northwestern in his sophomore year and led the team in scoring. "In season, when giant centers predominate," a Jan. 30, 1949, article in The Tribune said, "this 20-year- Ray Ragelis in 1963 old newcomer makes up in speed and shiftiness what he lacks in height. His fast moving fakes and clever rebound play have enabled him to outscore most of the big boys Henry N. Rowley; grain broker, aquarium trustee SERVICES WILL be private for Henry Nelson Rowley, 82, longtime independent grain broker on the Chicago Board of Trade.

Mr. Rowley, of Lake Forest, died Wednesday in Lake Forest Hospital. Mr. Rowley was born in Billings, Mont. He attended Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, N.J., where he was president of his class in 1921.

He graduated from Yale University in 1925 and was president of the Yale Banjo Club and a member of the Yale Glee Club. he has encountered so far. "The rugged towhead weighs 200 has scored 161 points in 11 games for an impressive 14.6 average." He won the Big 10 scoring title in 1951 with a record-breaking 277. points in Big Ten competition. He scored 36 points in one game, a school record that lasted four years.

Northwestern University sports records list him as one of only seven All-American basketball players in the school's history. He played one year of professional basketball for the Rochester Royals: before joining military service for two years. His coaching career included a year as head coach at Lake Forest College, during which he led the team to second place in its conference. He then served as assistant coach at Northwestern for three years. In the early 1960s, he coached the East Chicago Washington High School basketball team.

Mr. Ragelis also worked as an ironworker in the Calumet area. His only immediate survivor is a brother. He worked for two major Chicago brokerage firms, Lee Higinson Co. and Abbott, Proctor Paine.

In the mid-1930s, obtained a seat on the Chicago Board of Trade, where he remained a grain broker for more than 25 years. He retired in 1960. Mr. Rowley was a trustee of the Shedd Aquarium. He' is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Henry Nelson Jr.

and Curtis Whitbeck; a daughter, Andria Rowley Lawson; and eight grandchildren.
