Adam had two cats, I had three, and together we bought a dog. Now that we're married and living together, the pet population in our household is overwhelming. I have conveyed my frustration about this to my husband many times. Everv JlVJX Giant rnuay Thunderitas Well, four months ago, Adam decided to get another dog! I strongly objected, but he brought it home anyway, promising to take care of it 100 percent by himself. Instead, he lies on the couch watching TV and pays no attention to the new puppy, which isn't housebroken.

He refuses to take either dog for walks, bathe them or clean the dog run. He says he doesn't like them outside because they destroy the yard help me. Pet-peeved, Martinez, Calif. Dear pet-peeved: Insist that the animals be retrained to Uve outdoors, or find homes for them before the baby arrives. Your peace of mind and your baby's safety come first.

Dear Abby: I am a gay man in my mid-20s. I have known that I am gay for as long as I can remember. It is only recently that I have started to accept it. The catch is that I have a girlfriend. We have been best friends since we were kids, and have tried a serious romantic relationship several times.

She is aware of my past struggles in dealing with my sexuality, but she believes we have gotten past it (because I led her to believe that). It was not easy on her before, and I'm sure it won't be easy a second time. I know she truly loves me and wants to be with me the rest of our lives. I love her, too, and can't imagine her not being a part of my life, but as much as I want to, I cannot make my feelings cross over into the realm of romance because I'm gay. Abby, I want to have a house, kids, a station wagon and a family dog.

If I stay in this relationship, I'm sure I can have these things and maybe in time I will learn to be content However, I'm wondering if maybe I should be honest with her and everyone else. Abby, how can I tell her without losing her? Living a Lie Dear Living a Lie: You may be able to tolerate living a lie, but it's unfair to everyone with whom you are involved. Show your girlfriend this letter and tell her that you wrote it. Dear Abby Meanwhile, our house which i is my responsibility is being destroyed.

I can't relax with all the chasing and romping that goes on. Abby, I'm now four months pregnant, and I'm concerned about our baby's safety with so many untrained animals around. We both work full time, and lately Adam's been working on weekends, too. I have proposed that we each keep our favorite pet and find homes for the rest, but Adam won't hear of it. Please 926-9470 IW6 MtSomh Kiss Country kicks WWNC out of top spot FITCH TV ON AUGUST 9.

WIN FREE PHONES CASH. 15 THIS GREAT COUNTRY OR WHHT? In Asheville, the Arbitron survey is taken once a year in spring (in other markets, the ratings are made four times annually). Those overall numbers are for listeners age 12 and older, 6 a.m.-midnlght Monday-Sunday. And they reflect the audience "share," or percent of people listening to radio. While Kiss Country's numbers are up, and WWNC's are down, the two stations still have an impressive combined audience more than 38 percent of local listeners, up a couple of shares from last year.

"Kiss exploded!" in the ratings said Bill McMartui, WWNC and Kiss Country general manager, "It's one of the highest rated country FMs in America, if not the highest. We are viewing Kiss as a major success." Looking at the WWNC numbers, McMartin said he's "not surprised," but he's not planning any sudden, major programming changes. While Kiss Country has many younger listeners, WWNC has an older audience. "We're trying to figure what we can do to serve that audience," he said. Along with country music, WWNC will continue to be "the news and information station of Western North Carolina," he said.

And he had high praise for Scotty Rhodarmer, Asheville's longest-running radio personality. "I want Scotty to celebrate his 60th year on radio in the morning at WWNC and that's eight years away. Scotty will be a part of the future at WWNC for as long as he wants to be." By Tony Kiss ENTERTAINMENT EDITOR The 1996 Asheville radio ratings have been released and the city has a new number-one station. For the first time, powerful hot country station (better known as Kiss Country) rocketed to first place with overall listeners. Meanwhile, the former long-time champ, country station WWNC-AM570, tumbled to Becond place overall, but it still has Asheville's top rated radio program, the morning "Scotty Rhodarmer Show," Kiss Country and WWNC are sister stations owned by Osborn Communications.

Both have studios in the same building known as "Radio Ranch" in the Emma community of Asheville, On the Asheville radio scene, this is nothing short of a historic changing of the guard, since WWNC had been on top for more than a decade. It may also signal the end of AM radio's dominance in Asheville, an evolution that happened long ago in many cities. Asheville's only rock station, posted a huge increase in audience, finishing third in a tie with Greenville's Rounding out the top five stations was Greenville's In the crucial morning drive slot (6-10 a.m. Monday-Sunday). WWNC was still on top with Rhodarmer, followed closely by Kiss Country.
