A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired from Norfolk Southern Railway with 38 years of service as a conductor. Surviving are his wife, Ina Mae Fulghum Cole; girls basketball at Oakley and Valley Springs High Schools from 1935 to 1943. She moved to Harlan, In 1946, where she taught and coached until her retirement In 1983.

She Is survived by her son, Hartey Young of Richmond, sisters, Norma L. mm Carroll Dalton Anne Young Wayne Cole daughters and Dillingham of Ashevllle and Gladys L. Todd of Mlramar, brothers, Grady G. of Avery's Creek and William R. of Fletcher, Zack and Jesse I.

A lifelong resident of Cherokee County, she was a daughter of Hester Pullium Clark of Andrews and the late Frank Clark. She was a secretary with the N.C. Department of Transportation In Andrews. She was president of Murphy Business and Professional Women's Club and a member of Murphy First Baptist Church. She was preceded In death by her sister, Annie Ensley and brother, John Clark.

Surviving In addition to her mother are her husband, Harry Q. Lovlngood; daughter, Cynthia Jane Lovlngood of Murphy; son, Clark Lovlngood and his wife, Dariene of Andrews; sisters, Sarah Hyde and Bertha McConnell of Andrews, Fannie Patterson of Gasto-nla; grandsons, Brandon and Dustln; several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 8 p.m. Saturday at Ivle Funeral Home, Murphy, with Dr. Woodrow Busch officiating.

He Is survived by his sons, Sidney Ralph Woodard of Kentucky, Terry Allison Woodard of Marshall; daughters, Janl W. Randall and Diana W. Lewis of Marshall; brothers, David Woodard and John Woodard of Spring Hope; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. McCORKLE Oliver Wendell Holmes McCorkle, of 87 Blanton died Wednesday, June 5, 1996, in an Ashevllle nursing home. A native of Salisbury, he had lived In Asheville since 1925. He was the son of the late John McCorkle and Jessie Caldwell McCorkle. He was a graduate of Livingston College and taught school In the Asheville and Haywood County school systems. He was a member of Hopkins Chapel A.M.E.

Zion Church, Asheville chapter NAACP and a former member of the Wolverine Club. 'BILL' BRYANT STATESVILLE William PENROSE Daniel "D.W." Cordell, 45, of route 1 died Wednesday, June 5, 1996, at Pardee Memorial Hospital. A native of Henderson County, he was a son of the late James W. and Ruth Hughey Cordell. He was a project manager with Hayes and Luns-ford Electrical Contractors.

Surviving are his wife, Gayle Qrubb Cordell; daughter, Larissa Anne Cordell of the home; sister, Nancy Gall Murdoch of Havelock. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Little River Baptist Church, where he was a member. The Revs. Jeff Maynard and John Huckaby will officiate.

Medical Center after an extended Illness. A native of Henderson County, he lived In Buncombe County since 1986 and was a son of the late James Er-wln and Annie T. Lula Redden Barnwell. He was a retired farmer, owner and operator of Fin's Place In Edneyvllle for 30 years and a former musician, having played the washboard and harmonica at Smokey Mountain Jamboree. He was a World War II veteran, serving In the U.S.

Navy. He was a member of D.A.V. Chapter 14 In Hendersonville. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Blackburn Barnwell; son, David Barnwell of Hendersonville; stepsons, Cas-Imir Szott of Raleigh, Andrew Szott of Henderson County; brothers, Joe Barnwell of Henderson County, Marvin Barnwell of Ozark, grandchildren, Jason and Marchla Barnwell of Forest City. Services will be at 2 p.m.

JAMES PINKNEY EGERTON MILL SPRING James Plnkney Egerton, 92, husband of Sarah Elliott Egerton, of Sliver Creek Road, Mill Spring, died Thursday, June 6, in St. Luke's Hospital, Columbus.

Born In Polk County, he was the son of the late William Gaston and Sue Eva Mills Egerton. He attended local schools and Mars Hill College. He managed Egerton Son, a gener. al merchandise store, until it closed In 1956. In addition, he became a rural mall carrier serving route 1 and later route 2 of the Mill Spring Post Office.

At 19, he married the late Elsie Pearl Edwards, and both were active musicians for many years. He was an active singer and supporter of Christian Harmony of Singing Groups, who use an 1800's musical scale of four notes to simplify the learning and use of music for religious services. He married Sarah Elliott In 1980. They remained active until recently In The Meeting Place, The Polk County Historical Society, and local churches and the community. He served as treasurer of Mill Spring Fire Department for many years.

He also enjoyed playing checkers, winning many local competitions. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Mill Spring. Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters, Anita Ruth Parker of Charlotte, Sue Carolywn Smith of Roanoke, sisters, Sue Eva Lewis of Greensboro, Mollis L. Egerton of Charlotte, Virginia Rigsbee of Fort Lauderdale, six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m.

Saturday at McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, with the Rev. William Kanuup and the Right Rev. Walter D. Edwards officiating. Burial will be In Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus.

Charles "Bill" Bryant, 79, of McKlnney Mine Road, Little Switzerland, formerly of Statesvllle, died Wednesday, June 6, 1996, at his home after a period of declining health. A native of Iredell County, he was bom Feb.

19, 1917. He was a son of the late James Emmett Bryant and the late Mlttle Mills Bryant and husband of Wllma Brawley Bryant, whom he married June 30, 1973. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Marlon, and the retired owner of Bryant Appliance Service. He was a dairy cattle and sheep farmer and attended Statesvllle City Schools. He was a World War II veteran, serving in Panama and the Pacific theater.

He Is survived by his wife, Wllma Brawley Bryant of the home; son, William Charles Bryant Jr. of Jacksonville, daughter, Ann Bryant Coker of Roswell, granddaughter, Catherine Gibson Baer of Athens, stepdaughter, Jan Mills of Statesvllle; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hannah and W.F. Beaver of Statesville, Helen and Charles Slpple of Statesville; brother, Richard G. Bryant of Ocala, Fla. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m.
