BIO West www.philly.com THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER Friday, August 22, 2003 Death Notices Death Notices Death Notices DALRYMPLE REDNER LIEBERMAN and the Vibrations, failed to score, and Mr. Jackson drifted out of the music business. In later years he tried to set up a Searchers revival band, but the field was crowded, with two others already in existence. He served time in jail in the 1990s after threatening a woman with an air pistol. Margaret Raia '0z' Munchkin, 75 Margaret "Margie" Raia, 75, who as a 10-year-old girl played a Munchkin in the 1939 Hollywood classic The Wizard of Oz, died Sunday in Port Richey, Fla.

Ms. Raia and her brother, Matthew Raia, were among the 124 people cast as Munch-kins for a 10-minute scene in the film. Although she was unrecognizable in the sea of Munchkin faces, her brother was featured prominently as a Munchkinland official who welcomed Dorothy, played by Judy Garland. One of four children of Italian immigrants, she grew up on New York's Long Island and moved to Port Richey about 15 years ago with her sister, Maria, and brother-in-law, John J. Santiago.

Her favorite movie was The Wizard of Oz mostly, Santiago said, because it allowed her to see her late brother again. New York Times. His father was Maj. Gen. Julius Ochs Adler, president and publisher of the Chattanooga Times and the general manager of the New York Times from 1935 until 1955.

His great-grandfather was Adolph S. Ochs, who purchased the Times in 1896. Tony Jackson Searchers bassist, 63 Tony Jackson, 63, bass player for the Searchers, a Liverpool band best known for the 1964 song "Needles and Pins," died Monday in Nottingham, England. He had been ill for some time with ailments including arthritis and cirrhosis. Mr.

Jackson sang and played bass for the Searchers, who briefly rivaled the Beatles for popularity in the early 1960s. "Needles and Pins" made the top 20 in the United States after it was released in 1964. The band toured the United States the same year, appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show. Like contemporaries including John Lennon and George Harrison, Mr. Jackson was inspired first by British "skiffle king" Lonnie Donegan, and then by Buddy Holly and other American rock imports.

The Searchers honed their skills in Liverpool's nightclubs and the tough beer bars of Hamburg, Germany. After the Beatles' success drew attention to the Liverpool music scene, the Searchers were signed by Pye Records. Mr. Jackson was lead singer on the band's first two British hits, "Sweets for My Sweet" and "Sugar and Spice," but played bass only on the enduring "Needles and Pins" and "Don't Throw Your Love Away." He quit the group in 1964. His follow-up band, Tony Jackson Connie Douglas Reeves Hall of Fame cowgirl, 101 Connie Douglas Reeves, 101, a legendary cowgirl performer, died Sunday in San Antonio, Texas, of cardiac arrest, 12 days after being thrown from her favorite horse.

Ms. Reeves, who taught more than 30,000 girls to ride horses, rode in the parade of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame last year when it moved to Fort Worth. She was inducted into the hall in 1997 and was its oldest living member. She opened a riding stable in San Antonio in the 1930s and became a riding instructor at Camp Waldemar for Girls in 1936. She retired as head riding instructor at age 80, but she continued to teach at the camp.

"Always saddle your own horse" became her life motto and is repeated almost every time her name is mentioned. It was read aloud during her Hall of Fame induction. Julius Ochs Adler PR executive, 78 Julius Ochs Adler, 78, a businessman and public-relations consultant whose high-profile clients included Robert F. Kennedy and George McGov-ern, died Monday in New York. Mr.

Adler worked on Kennedy's 1964 Senate campaign and was the New York press secretary for McGovern's presidential campaign in 1972. As a vice president at the Thomas J. Deegan he also did public-relations consulting for the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Kaiser Aluminum Corp. Mr. Adler worked until 1959 as an executive in the advertising, circulation, mechanical and promotion departments of the ESTELLE B.
