S. D. Burchfield CANTON Samuel Dilve Burchfield, 76, of Canton died Wednesday in a Waynesville hospital. A retired Haywood County logger, he was a member of Burnett Cove Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Glenn Trull Burchfield; four sons, William, Grady, Jack and 'Michael Burchfield of Canton; three brothers, Harry Burchfield of Morganton, Howard Burchfield of Lincolnton and Lawrence "Toad" Burchfield of Canton: seven sisters.

Etta Warren, Anna Ray, Julia Sorrells and Kathryn Pressley of Canton, Hermie Allen of St. Petersburg, Edith Dills of Biltmore and Emma Sorrells of Waynesville; 11 grandchildren great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Crawford Funeral Home, Canton. The Revs.

Carter Parham and T.M. Gibson will officiate. Burial will be in Gwyn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and at other times will be at the residence.

A native of Madison County, he was a retired farmer and a son of the late Dave and Tina Rice Carver. Surviving are his wife, Dollie Shook Carver; five sons, David J.
