A meeting of the various comm.it-ees of Allein Post, American Legion, who are working on the American Minstrels to be given at tho Walnut Street Theatre on Friday nitrht. Moses Howman, a negro chicken thief, who was plying his nefarious trade in the chicken house of Percy Cowan, P. M. Harding, rrank 11. An-ilrevvs, and other citizens, is in the hospital, as the result of having stopped a charge of birdshot fired from a shotgun in the hands of Harrison Williams, colored chauffeur for Mr. Cow.

in. He was after Mr. Cowan's chickens at 2: no o'clock yesterday morning, when he xlnpped the hot lead pellets. The above named citizens had been missing chickens for some time. Just a few days nfco, tho chauffeur saw come out of the chicken house early In the morning, and ac costed him, but the negro gave a plausible excuse, walking away empty handed.

On investigation, the chaul- ftier found a sack of live chickens miller a pile of straw. The citizens and the chauffeur were standing watch for the thief. Mr. Cowan had a revolver; his chauffeur a shotgun. The thief saw chauf- fuer and started to run, when the latter pulled down on him ami filled him with birdshot.

Howman was taken to the station house and then to Ihi' hospital. The night watch has nut been abandoned and if any one attempts to emulate the example set by Howman, the entire program of yrsterday morning will be presented, the only change being in heavier shot in the cartridges.
