Most of the players, recruited from cities, didn't want to be farmers, so they took engineering or it might be better to say that engineering took them. Half of the scholarship stars flunked out before their sophomore year, and never so much as wore a varsity uniform. As a result, the Wolfpack club decided last winter that its scholarships would go only to football players who had received good marks in high school.

The first question that was asked of a prospect was not how many yards he averaged net from scrimmage, but what sort of marks he got in math. The 1941 freshman squad was just'as rough and just as tough as the 1940 aggregation buf the difference was that the 1941 lads knew the difference between a cosine and a logarithm. Jumping into a 1-0 lead after three minutes of play on Hanks charity goal, the Maroons en-Joved prosperity only for a few seconds. Masters tupped in a one-handed shot and R.

Hyatt made a crip to put Grace in front, 4-1. The Maroons battled back and at the end of the period trailed by 4-6. Grace continued to hold the advantage in the second quarter and the teams took the intermission with Coach Peterson's outfit on the front end of a 11-8 score. In the third period play became faster and more furious, foul shots took up considerable time, and the Maroons gradually pulled up into a 17-16 lead when Callahan made good two free tries. But Grace wasn't to be licked.

When the final chapter opened Warren made a follow-up shot, Masters added a free try and R. Hyatt caged a long one to put Grace ahead. With six minutes left to play, both teams became more erratic than ever. Callahan added two points from the foul line for Asheville's and the game's final markers, but both outfits, in the final four minutes, missed try after try at the hoop. A traveling penalty cost the Maroons a field goal, and faulty passes proved costly to each club.
