"Everything is starting to fit back together now, and it was an experience in never forget, but things are going pretty good for me now," he said After seeing the television program, Bannerman, 19, said many college friends asked him about the crash. "I dont mind talking about it now. It kind of helps." Experience is what Kenneth Newkirk has gained the most in the past two years. The youngest of the group, he graduated last year from Smith and just finished his first semester at North Carolina Central Th Associated PrajM GREENSBORO It's been two years of adjustment for three teenagers involved in a mysterious hit-and-run accident on Interstate 40, keeping the faith that the driver who changed their lives win be apprehended. On Dec. 23.

1988. Levers Allen III and three teen-age friends were driving to Raleigh to shop for Christmas gifts when a driver forced their car off 1-40 near Durham. Kenny Dungee, 19 and a Greensboro Smith High School senior, died in the wreck. The other three teen-agers have gone on with their Uvea. According to the teen-agers, the car in question was described as a dark blue Chevrolet, possibly a Monte Carlo.

It had been ungating the Allen car in the passing lane on Interstate 40. When the student's car sped up to evade the car, the unknown driver rammed them twice from behind and a third time as it switched lanes. The teen-ager's car spun out of control and flipped about one-half mile east of the Orange County line. "I think about it sometimes," said Allen, now a sophomore engineering student at Virginia Tech. "I have good days and bad days, but I dont have the bad days as often." Before the accident, Allen was a member of the ROTC at Smith, and he had hoped to attend the U.S.

A former lifeguard, Allen has adjusted to life and says he walks everywhere on campus without any problems. "Just recently, I saw a guy that fit the description.
