DORA JANE ROBINSON WEAVERVILLE Dora Jane "Memaw" Crain Robinson, 66, of the Flat Creek community, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at her home. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Earlis and Jennie Silvers Crain. Surviving are a son, Earnest Dean Robinson and his wife, Kathy, of Fairview; two daughters, Linda Collins and her husband, Ricky, of Alexander and Tammy Bass and her husband, Carl, of Weaverville; seven grandchildren; a four brothers, Kenneth a and Albert Crain of Marion, Tommy Crain of Alexander and Johnny Crain of Burnsville; and five sisters, Louise Phillips, Margaret Young and Ennis Hardin, all of Burnsville, Joyce Riddle of Weaverville and Theresa Collins of Marion. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m.

Friday in the chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Haynes will officiate. Burial will be in Burton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Thursday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at her home. LEVOYD A. NORTON HORSE SHOE Levoyd A. Norton, 92, of Horse Shoe, died Tuesday, Nov.

16, 2004, at the VA Medical Center. He was a native of Talahome Plains, and lived most of his life in Henderson County. He was a son of the late John C. Norton and Zora Bell Metcalf Norton. He was the husband of the late Paralee Norton, who passed away in 1992.

He was preceded in death by two brothers. He was a farmer for 30 years and drove school bus for Etowah Elementary school for 27 years. He was a life member of the D.A.V. and was in the Army for 10 years, serving during World War II. He was a shipbuilder working on the USS Enterprise, USS North Carolina, USS Missouri and other ships.

He was a member of Horse Shoe Baptist Church for 30 years. He is survived by a son, John A. Norton of Horse Shoe; five grandchildren, Nick, Kelly, David, James six great-great-grandchildren; and Wendy; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Shepherds Church Street Chapel with the Rev.

Phillip Capell officiating. Burial will follow in Campground Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Thos. Shepherd Son Funeral Directors.

10, 2004, at Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation Care Center following a period of declining health. A native of New York City, he resided in Buncombe County since 1987. He was a son of the late Barnett and Sonia Soloman Asch and the husband of the late Mildred Edna Murray Gottlieb Asch. Asch All of his life, Murray Asch has dedicated his energies to aiding the less fortunate. He was the oldest volunteer in the Vista Program for many years, received the Governor's Service Award from Gov.

Jim Martin in 1990 and was active in the Land of Sky programs and various organizations. He was dedicated to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Asheville and participated in the Jewish Community Center. He was a multi-learned man who loved opera with a passion and music in general. While at Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation Care Center, he introduced programs to residents and staff and was loved by all. Surviving are his daughters, Roberta Atkins and her husband, Stan, formerly of Asheville, now residing in Sunset Beach, and Linda Kline of Oakdale, N.Y.; sons, Harold Asch and his wife, Bonnie, of Lancaster, N.Y., Richard Asch of San Francisco and David Asch of New York City; two grandsons, Robert and Barry; two granddaughters, Susan and Lori; and nine greatgrandchildren grandchildren.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church. STAMEY CANTON Vertie Mae Sutton Stamey, 89, of Ferguson Street, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was a daughter of the late Ervin Addie Smith Sutton. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Verndina Hayes; brothers, Waldo, Charlie, Norville and Jesse; and grandson, Adam Stamey. Mrs.

Stamey was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, James Ray 'Stamey; three sons and their wives, Jerry R. and Barbara Stamey and Steve and Kathy Stamey, all of Canton, and Michael and Becky Stamey Orlando, a sister, Mae Miney of Waynesville; a brother, Eugene Sutton of Waynesville; four grandchildren, Andrew, Ronnie, Derrick and Eric Stamey; and two greatgranddaughters, Jordan and Katie Stamey. Fletcher has sued, seeking to stop possibly 10,000 provisional ballots from being counted because the voters cast their choice outside of their precincts.

A judge this week declined to stop the recount, but will hear the case Nov. 29, according to the office of Fletcher's lawyer. Three of the four candidates all except Atkinson have filed formal protests over more than 4,500 votes lost in Carteret County when an electronic voting system failed to record ballots cast before Election Day. 25, Reeves Allen, 86, of went home to be with surrounded by his family on Nov. 16, 2004. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Robert Taylor Allen and late Lettie Clark Allen. He retired from A.C. Lawrence Leather Co.

with 28 years of service. He was a member of Hazelwood Baptist Church. Reeves loved his big family. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a man who enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to make people laugh with his funny jokes and tall tales.

He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing and camping, especially at Jack Rabbit Campground. He had a great passion for music bluegrass and gospel which he passed on to his children. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Avery, Emery, Melvin and Franklin Allen; two sisters, Tilda Brown and Louise Allen; and a son, Michael David Allen. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Irene Trantham Allen; six sons, John Allen of Hazelwood, Robert Allen of Sylva and Melvin, Albert, Bobby Gene and Gary, Allen, all of Waynesville; four daughters, Frances Thomson of Redondo Beach, Mary Shook of Hazelwood, Shelia Rohrer of Candler and Linda Watson of Waynesville; 25 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; three half brothers, Raymond, John Lewis and Roger Allen; and four half sisters, Lucille Cordova, Lorrena Nallion, Debbie Hensley, and Elaine Rogers. Waynesville chapel of Curtis Wells Funeral Home. CHARLOTTE GERTRUDE REED HORNBUCKLE CHEROKEE Charlotte Gertrude Reed Hornbuckle, 75, of Cherokee, passed away Wednesday, Nov.

10, 2004, after a long and courageous fight with diabetes at Skyland Care Center in Sylva. Charlotte was born on March 30, 1929, in Cherokee. She was a faithful member of the Wrights Creek Baptist Church for 45 years. She graduated from Cherokee Boarding School in the late 1940s. Charlotte's Chestnut Bread was famous through out Cherokee.

She will be remembered for her remembered for her perseverance and compassion. Charlotte was a daughter of the late Adam and Margaret Catt Reed. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Larens Hornbuckle; sisters, Suzanne Meinschein, Nell Rogers and Gladys Griffin; and a brother, Moody Reed. Surviving are her sister, Marguerita Owl of the home; grandson, Skye Owl of the home; and half sister, Mary Ellen Thomas of Phoenix. funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.

OWEN CLARK KING CANDLER Owen Clark King, 68, of 38 Harold Connor Drove, a father, grandfather and great fisherman, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004. A native of Missouri, he was a son of Mildred Clark Trantham of Seacrys, and the late Noble D. King. He was a veteran serving in the Marines.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are three sons, Jae D. King of New Smyrna Beach, and Mark and Perry West of Mesa, a daughter, Nicole King of Asheville; sister, Shirley Rhoads and her husband, Wes, of Flint, two grandchildren, Kylie and Kerra King; his caregiver, Glenda Varnum with whom he resided; and his best friend, Burf. A private burial will be held at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. A service of remembrance will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Biltmore Church of Christ.

Senate. DOCK WILLARD ROBINSON ASHEVILLE Dock Willard Robinson, 93, formerly of 102 Madison died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at Beverly Healthcare Center. He was born in Hamlet and was a son of the late William H. and Anna Robinson.

Mr. Robinson was a World War I1 veteran in the Army. He attended taiJoring school. He was a member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry and was junior warden.

He was a former sales representative for Johnson Publishing Co. and retired as a social worker from Juvenile Evaluation Center. Mr. Robinson loved to fish and play bridge. He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 62 years, Eula Belle Davis Robinson; granddaughters, Keenan Mosley, Karmen Jackson and Keir Wilcox; great -grandchildren, Zion, Jontah, Michon and Mekiyah; nieces, Gwendolyn Atkinson, Genevieve Brown and Marcell Beason; nephew, Joseph Gilchrist; and other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, where he will be interred. Father Jim Abbott will officiate. Services are being provided by Ray Allen Funeral Service.

Acknowledgments may be e-mailed to DOROTHY GRAY NICHOLSON BREVARD Dorothy Gray Nicholson, 82, died suddenly Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at her residence. A native of Henderson County and a longtime resident of Brevard, she was the daughter of the late Rev. James Jefferson Gray and Sarah Shipman Gray. Mrs.

Nicholson attended Fruitland Institute and was a graduate of Brevard College. She worked in the office for Strauss when Ecusta first began operations in Brevard. She was a member of Brevard First Baptist and a former member of the Easter Star. Her husband, Julius Lee "J.L." Nicholson, preceded her in death 1999. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Edward Gray, and other half brothers and half sisters.

Survivors include her son, Ed Nicholson and his wife, Janet, of Brevard; a daughter, Susie Nicholson of Franklin; a sister, Sue Nicholson of Asheville; grandchildren, Chris Leopard of Leopard and his wife, Angie, of Franklin, and Jewels Nicholson of Hendersonville; and great-grandchildren, Amy and Trevor Leopard. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Owen officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

SHELDON GARRIS DENTON- Sheldon Mitchell Garris, 31, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, from injuries received when the tractor he was operating overturned while being loaded onto a trailer on Berger Drive in Davidson County.

Mr. Garris was born on Jan. 25, 1973, in Guilford County, to Sherrill Lee Garris and Joyce Morton Garris. He was of Garris Paving Co. and a member of Goodwill Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sherrill Garris, who died on June 28, 2002. He was loved by all. Survivors include his wife, Melissia Rummage Garris of the home; sons, Dalton Garris, age 4, and Jacob Garris, age 1, both of the home; mother, Joyce Garris of Denton; brother, Shannon Garris and his wife, Diane, of Anchorage, Alaska; grandmother, Letha Garris of Albemarle; nieces, Hannah and Grace Garris of 'Leon Anchorage; and parents-in-law, and' Geneva Rummage of Albemarle. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Goodwill Christian Church Cemetery, officiated by the Rev.

Jim Elliott Road, Denton, NC 27239. LOIS WILSON CRAWFORD HENDERSONVILLE Lois Wilson Crawford, 77, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mill River Presbyterian Church.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. JUNE C. BAIRD ETOWAH June C. Baird, 83, of the Riverwind community, Etowah, died Tuesday, Nov.

16, 2004, at Sunnybrook Assisted Living. Thos. Shepherd Son Funeral Directors will announce arrangements. 8,499 votes over Republican Bill Fletcher after the recounts. The difference between the two had been 9,254 votes.

The final recount totals will probably change again by today. Bartlett ordered Harnett County election officials to perform another recount because they counted some ballots twice. The number of double-counted votes will probably total a few hundred. Bartlett said he also wanted more information about Onslow County's final totals before assuring their correctness. The results probably won't resolve who will take office in January until the courts and the FRANK STEPHEN OBERLE GLENVILLE Frank Stephen Oberle, 51, of Glenville, died unexpectedly Sunday, Nov.

14, 2004, due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he had lived in Jackson County for the past nine years. He was a contractor for Structure Contracting the son of Jack Steven Oberle of Glenville and the late Corrol Savastano Puckett. Surviving, in addition to his father, are his wife of 18 years, Lorraine Ladall Oberle; a daughter, Bretney Oberle of the home; a son, Frank Steven Oberle of Smithfield, sisters, Dawn Anderson of Shelby, Tuyett Edwina Case of Palm Harbor, and Kathleen Oberle of Tampa, Fla; and brothers, Jerry and Rick Oberle, both of Cullowhee. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m.

Friday in Glenville Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Ray Lewis officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at the church.
