Roundup of Elk Herd Delayed GRYGLA, Minn. (AP) A roundup of a herd of elk that have been destroying crops was halted Thursday after a bull that was tranquilized drowned in a marsh, authorities said. The Department of Natural Resources, which has been trying since late summer to move the herd of 40 'elk, won't try again until winter, officials said. The elk that drowned had been shot with a tranquilizer gun. "That animal was a beautiful animal," said a disappointed Jerry Maertens, area wildlife manager for the department.

Women Seek Change ST. LOUIS (AP) About 200 Roman Catholic women who want to be priests began a three-day conference Thursday to plan a "revolution" they hope will prompt the Vatican change its policy. "The whole structure of the church is based on patriarchy," Kathleen Sharkey, St. Louis coordinator of the Women's Ordination Conference, said. "What we need is a renewal of the structure." And that will not be easy, said Dolly Pomerleau, a national organizer of the conference.
