A native of Mingo Junction, Ohio, he had lived in Buncombe County for the past 20 years. He was a retired carpenter formerly employed with Gordon Ramsey Inc. He attended THELMA ASHE Thelma Maynor Burnetts Ashe, 71, of 115 Brucemont Circle, died Sunday, Aug.

7, 1994, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was formerly employed with American Enka Corp. She was a member of Westwood Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Kallie Sue-Bill adult 4 adult Sunday school class and the Women's Missionary Union. She was CUMMING, Ga. Henry Loyd Byas, 81. of 6495 White Oak died Monday, Aug.

8, 1994, at the home of his son in Cumming, Ga. He was the son of Hattle Johnson Byas and the late Charles L. Byas. He was a native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County until this past year, when he and his wife moved to Georgia to live with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.

George Byas. He was a retired electrician and lifelong member of the IBEW Local 238. His work took him to several states such as Georgia, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, California and Washington D.C He was responsible for the electrical wiring of several landmarks, the V.A, Hospital in Oteen, The First Baptist Church, The Clyde Savings and Loan, Asheville Civic Center, The DuPont Plant in Brevard, Buckeye Baptist Church In Swannanoa, and many local residences. He was a member of Buck eye Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles L.

Byas In 1969; son, Henry Byas In 1955; daughter, Sandra Byas in May 1994; brother, Howard "John" Byas in May 1994. He is survived by his wife, Nettie Short Byas; mother, Hattie Johnson Byas of Swannanoa; sons, George Byas of Cumming, Chester Byas of Swannanoa, Kenneth Byas of Ponca City, daughters, Pat Hurst of Tulsa, Wanda Putnam of Marion, Fredia Burgin of Black Mountain, Margaret Williams of Swannanoa; brother, Vernon T. Byas of Swannanoa; 33 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Services wiH be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of a daughter, Margaret Williams, 660 Buckeye Cove Road, Swannanoa. Wednesday at the funeral home. SCOTT LARSEN DECATUR, Ga. Scott Alan Larsen, 28, of 1 17 Northern Apt. 8, died Sunday, Aug. 7.

1994, at his home. A native of Buncombe County, he had resided in Atlanta, since September of 1988. He was employed with Alnsworth-Noah Interior Designs. He was formerly employed with Pringle-Dixon-Pringle Advertising Snow Hill United Methodist Church. He was the former governor of the Asheville Moose Lodge 781 from 1986 to 1988.

He was currently a member of the Black Mountain Moose Lodge 2222. He was the son of the late William Brady and Ida Mae Featner Balr. He Donald Moore was the adopted son of the late William Earl and Bessie Harris Featner Moore. He Is survived by his wife, June Burgess Moore; daughters, Laura Mae Ensley of Orlando, Sandi June Netherton of Asheville; sons, Donald Paul Moore and Richard Wil- liam Moore of Candler; sister, Naomi Featner Allen of Steubenville, Ohio; and eight grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m.

Thursday at Anders Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

At other times, the family will be at the home. VIOLA CONNELL HENDERSONVILLE Viola Osteon Connell, 88, of 108 Glover died Monday, Aug. 8, 1994, at her home. A native of Henderson County, she had resided in Henderson County all of her life. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Malinda McCali Osteon and was married to James A.

Connell, who died in 1980. She attended Gethsemane Baptist Church. She is survived by her sons, James L. Connell of Williamstown, N.J. and Charles Connell of Summer- ville, S.C; daughters, Sydney Chappelear of Vera Beach, Nora Camp, Martha Bresnahan, Linda Laughter, and Emily Puckett of Hen-dersonville; sister, Serepta Layne of Hendersonville; 18 grandchildren; 15 and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Gethsemane Baptist Church, Hendersonville, with the Rev. Jerry Orr Jr. officiating. Burial will be In Oak Dale Cemetery, Hendersonville, after the service.

9, 1994, in an Asheville convalescent center. A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Silas and Bessie Ann Rollins Jones and the wife of the late Jeter P. Allen and Edwin Creasman. She retired from the A Tea Co. with 20 years of service.

She was preceded In death by her son, Bobby P. Allen. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmie R. and Martha Sue Allen of Asheville; daughter-in-law, Joyce Allen of Candler; six grandchildren; and a number of greatgrandchildren. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m.

She was a former member of the Church of God of West Asheville. She Is survived by her daughter, Naomi Barkley of Asheville; son, Dan W. Wilson of Mabanks, Texas; sisters, Burl Wilson and Bill Wilson of Yancey County, brother, Ken Fender of Shelby; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a former employee of the Asheville Citizen-Times and a salesman for Electrolux. He was a former member of the Land of the Sky Barber Shop Singers and the Weavervllle Lions Club and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Weav Charles Cheek ervllle, where he was a member of the Deltz Sunday School Class and the Joy Group. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving In World War II and the son of the late Clarence and Annie Eller Cheek.

He Is survived by his wife, Geneva Rogers Cheek; son, Greg Cheek of WeavervHIe; sisters, Polly Pollard of Gastonia, Betty McGiffln and lona Buckner of Weavervllle; and a grandson, Cody Cheek. A longtime resident of Chapel Hill, he had been active In both community and university life. A former chairman of the Chapel Hill Community Council, he was the recipient In 1985 of the Knox Massey Distinguished Service Award for exceptional service to the University for 36 years and was honored In 1988 by the Kenan-Flagler School of Business School for his outstanding contributions to the school for over 33 years. This annual award would be known permanently as the R.W. Holsten Award. A 1950 graduate of the university, he was a former executive director of the business foundation of North Carolina, a member of the Order of the Golden Fleece, Order of the Glmghoul, Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, and a life member of the University of North Carolina General Alumni Association.
