2B MILESTONES Statesman Journal, Salem, Saturday, June 30, 1990 S. Hugh and Edna Hersom of Crabtree will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary at a reception from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Albany Senior Center. They request no gifts.

Friends and relatives are invited. The hosts of the celebration will be their family. S. Hugh Hersom and Edna Truax were married Sept. 9, 1930, in Fonda, Iowa.

He is retired from the plywood industry, and Edna and Hugh Hersom she is retired from Stayton Cannery. He was a member of the Oddfellows, and she was a member of Rebekah Lodge. They are both active in Good Sam's and the Crabtree Senior Citizens group. Their family includes James D. and Cheryl Hersom of Albany, and four grandchildren.

Leslie and Opal Carson Hugh and Edna Hersom Leslie and Opal Carson of Stayton will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reaffirmation of their vows and reception at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Christian Church, 685 Marion St. NE, Salem. They request no gifts. Friends and relatives are invited.

The hosts of the celebration will be their children and grandchildren. Leslie Carson and Opal Yates were married June Opal and Leslie Carson 29, 1940, in Salem. He is a retired optometrist, and she is a retired optometric assistant. He is a life member of the Willamette District and American Optometric Associations and a member of the Stayton Lion's Club. She is a member of the Lyon's Garden Club.

They are both members of the First Christian Church in Salem. Their family includes Carol and Dr. Bill Miller of Medford, Daryl Carson of Portland, Don and Susan Carson of New York City; four grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren. Her fiance is the son of Virgil Greenwood of Willits, and Frances M. Scharper of Lakeport, Calif. He is a graduate of Willits Union High School and Riverside City College.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Dorthea A. and Ray C. Paul of Salem and Darrell and Sharon McDaniel of Yuba City, Calif. She is a graduate of McKay High School and Chemeketa Community College. She is a secretary.

Her fiance is the son of Wendell W. and Karen M. Gray of Eugene. He is a graduate of Churchill High School and Chemeketa. He is a sales clerk.

Hawkins of Tillamook. She is a graduate of South Salem High School and is a receptionist. Her fiance is the son of Richard M. Horner Sr. of Central Point and Nancy J.

Governor of Okay, Okla. He is a graduate of Crater High School and served in the Army. He is a radiologic technologist. A Sept. 1 wedding in the First United Methodist Church is planned.

Mary Catherine Herb and Steven Allen VanKleeck, both of Portland, are engaged to be married. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Joseph C. and Peggy E. Herb of Albany. She is a graduate of Stayton High School and attended Western Oregon State College.

Sixten E. Olson and Evelyn J. Peterson were married July 1, 1940, in Minot, N.D. He is a retired precision grind- Evelyn and Sixten Olson and she is a retired nurse's aide. They are both active in Salem Heights Church.

McMullen Duff Kathleen L. McMullen and Sean Ashton Duff, both of Fort Collins, are engaged to be married. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Polly McMullen of Grand Junction, and the late Samuel McMullen. She is a graduate of Mesa State College and is assistant news editor at The Coloradoan newspaper. Her fiance, formerly of Salem, is the son of James and Joan Duff of Morgan Hill, Calif.

He is Kathleen McMullen and Sean Duff a graduate of Willamette University and is sports editor at The Coloradoan. An Aug. 5 wedding in Avery House in Fort Collins is planned. Humphreys Stimson Karen Joy Humphreys and Michael Lee Stimson, both of Corvallis, are engaged to be married. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Geraldine L.

She was born in Brownsville. She lived in Halsey almost all her life, moving to Lebanon in 1980. She taught piano for 65 years. a member of the Halsey Christian, Jesse Church O. Cross since 1915.

March She on 2, 1924, in Halsey; he died in 1961. Survivors include her son, Bart of Lebanon; brother, Wayne Robertson of Lebanon; and three grandchildren. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday in Huston mortuary. Contributions may be made to the Lebanon Community Hospital.

SJ, Beatrice Laura Falk June 20, 1901 June 29, 1990 STAYTON Beatrice Laura Falk, 89, died Friday in Eugene. was born and raised in Clark County, Wis. She was a resident of San Diego, for 40 years, moving to Lebanon in the 1960s. In 1985 she returned to San Diego. She came to Stayton three weeks ago.

She had been a teacher and a hairdresser. She retired from the Broadway Department Store in San Diego during the 1960s. She was. a member of the Lebanon Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed scrap books and gardening.

She married Arthur W. Falk on June 13, 1923, in Loyal, he died in 1980. Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Smith of Stayton and LaVada Orcutt of LaMesa, brother, Paul Snyder of Eugene; sisters, Innis Stevens and Ruth Schlinsog, both of Wisconsin; 39 grandchildren; 28 greatgrandchildren; and 12 great-greatgrandchildren. Graveside services will begin at 2 p.m. Monday in Lebanon Odd FellowS Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Huston mortuary, Lebanon. SJ, Bonnie June Lutz Sept. 9, 1962 June 24, 1990 TOLEDO Bonnie June Lutz, 27, died Sunday in Toledo. She was born in Salem. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church Christ of Latter-day Saints, Newport.

Survivors include her husband, Anthony Lutz of Kingman, parents, Lois G. Long of Portland and Dallas D. Hurd of Seal Rock; greatgrandmothers, Mabel of Watson, and Jean E. Davenport of Salem; brothers, Jesse F. Logan of Kingman, Josh 'C.

18, 1911 June 28, 1990 NEWPORT Iona "Tynne" McGlynn Kenney, 78, died Thursday in Newport. She was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She owned the Seven Seas Gift Shop and resided in Newport for the past 25 years. Survivors include her friend, Sharon Gaumer of South Beach. At her request, there will be no services.

5, 1918 June 28, 1990 Andrew J. Helbert 72, of Salem died Thursday in Salem Hospital. He was born and raised in Portland. He had worked at Southern Pacific Railroad since he was 16 years old, retiring in 1968. He enjoyed fishing and his pet bird.

He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Survivors include his brother, Kenneth of Portland; and sisters, Dorothy Mize and Marjorie Lichty, both of Aumsville. Graveside services will begin at 11 this morning in Belcrest Memorial Park. Arrangements are by RigdonRansom mortuary. Agnes Nielsen Jensen Sept. 22, 1903 June 28, 1990 Agnes Nielsen Jensen, 86, of Salem died Thursday in Independence. She was born in Blair, Neb. A registered nurse, she was secretary and school nurse at Dana College in Blair for many years, retiring in 1964. She moved to Hood River in 1964 and came to Salem in 1988.

She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, and she enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. She married Alfred Jensen on Dec. 10, 1933, in Oaks, he died in 1988. She is survived by her sons, Richard of Monmouth and Jerome of Salem; brother, Marcus Beck of Blair; sister, Laura Nyegaard of Eugene; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m.

He was a World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veteran in the Air Force; he retired in 1975 after 28 years of service. He worked for First Interstate Bank and was a member of the Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Lucille; daughter, Linda Edwards of Vancouver, son, Richard of Salem; brothers, Adam of Grandview, and Joseph of Selah, sisters, Maggie Kern of Pierce, Barbara Heauser of Portland, and Pauline Moser of Pollock, S.D.; and eight grandchildren. 16, 1918 June 28, 1990 SEATTLE Mark A. Getzendaner 71, died Thursday in Seattle. He was born in Princeton, Iowa, and was raised in Davenport, Iowa. He was an attorney for the U.S. government and served as general counsel for the Alaskan Communications System in Seattle.

He was a World War II Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Johnson of Seattle; daughters, Heidi Baker of Lake Oswego and Karol Kay Getzendanner-Teadtke of Vancouver, son, Mark A. III of Everett, sister, Martha Mann of Bend; brother, the Rev. David. C.

SJ, Emilie E. Rickard March 27, 1925 June 28, 1990 SILVERTON Emilie E. Rickard, 65, died Thursday in Silverton. She was born in Jordan, N.M., and came to Silverton in 1945. She was a homemaker.

She married David Rickard on Aug. 5, 1941, in Las Vegas, Nev. She was a member of Salem First Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include husband; sons, Kenneth of Silverton and Carol L. of Orange, daughter, Denice of Condon; brother, Raymond Lee of Visalia, sisters, Ophilia and Elizabeth, both of Tulsa, foster daughter, Lynn White of Portland; foster sons, Bryon White Darrell White, both of Salem, and Steve White of Seattle; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Unger mortuary, Silverton. Interment will be in Bethany Cemetery. Opal Louise Morley May 22, 1900 June 28, 1990 Opal Louise Morley, 90, of Salem died Thursday. Services are pending at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen mortuary.

SJ, Frederick Nathan Grumbo Sr. Dec. 12, 1917 June 28, 1990 STAYTON Frederick Nathan Grumbo 72, died Thursday in Salem. He was born in Bathgate, N.D. He served in the Army during World War II and worked for the Stayton Canning Co.

for 13 years until retiring. He married Florence Wolfgram on Nov. 24, 1945, in Cavalier, N.D. In 1946, he moved to Oregon. He lived in Lebanon for 26 years until moving to Stayton in November.

He enjoyed gardening. Survivors include his wife; sons, John, Richard and Larry, all of Stayton, and Frederick Jr. of Scio; daughter, Joanne Grumbo of Stayton; brothers, Warren Bourassa and Douglas Bourassa, both of Minnesota; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Monday in Weddle mortuary.

Interment will be in Lone Oak Cemetery. SJ, Death Elsewhere Richard English NEW ORLEANS Richard Walter English, a decorated World War II veteran who worked for three decades to have his all-black battalion become the first honored by a U.S. president, died Tuesday of natural causes at age 81. English fought throughout Europe with the 761st Tank Battalion, one of the few black units to see combat in World War II. Of the more than 400 battalion members, 276 including English received Purple Hearts.
