MORRIS R. SIMMONS BURNSVILLE Morris Richard Simmons, 67, of South Toe, died Saturday, April 6, 1996, at his home. He was a son of the late Oscar and Cora Silver Simmons. Services were held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.

NITA STAMEY CANTON Nita Haney Stamey, 61, of 45 Pennsylvania died Sunday, April 7, 1996, in a local hospital. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Print and Minnie Williams. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, James "Bud" Sutton; daughter, Sarah Mills of Canton; brother, Ralph Haney of Canton; sisters, Floy Cordell, Noveline Gibson and Hazel Christopher of Canton, Ethel Brock of Greenville, S.C., Oles Cordell of Candler. Services will be at 2 p.m.

Tuesday at the funeral home. EDNA MOSS WEAVERVILLE Edna Moss, 98, died Sunday, April 7, 1996, at Brian Center. A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Dave and Emma Wagner Donkel. She was a retired sales clerk. She was the wife of the late Charles Blaine Moss.

Survivors include her stepdaughters, Charlene Rotunno Westchester, Jean Methena of Covington, five stepgrandchildren; nieces, Edna Briggs and Jean Grooms of Leicester. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Penland Funeral Home, Swannanoa, with the Rev. Everette Haney officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.

PARLEY BURLESON BAKERSVILLE Parley Burleson, 91, of Tucker, formerly of the Snow Hill Community, died Saturday, April 6, 1996, in a Decatur hospital. He was a son of the late Clingman and Lula Belle Hughes Burleson and husband of Maude Johnson Burleson, who died in 1987. A retired carpenter, he was a member of Snow Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by his daughter, Montise Jones of Tucker, sister, Ethel Garland of Spruce Pine; granddaughters, Vickie Barnes of Douglasville, Viva Boyett of Stone Mountain, great-grandson, Nick Barnes of Douglasville, Ga.

Parsons 81, of Newton, W.Va., died Sunday, April 7, 1996, in Memorial Division-Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston, W.Va., after an extended illness. He was bom Aug. 13, 1914, in Newton, W.Va., a son of the late William M. and Lydia Smith Parsons. He was a retired crane operator for Union Carbide Alloy, W.Va., with 30 years of service.

He was a 49-year member of Newton Baptist Church where he served as head deacon, Sunday school teacher and song leader. He was a past member of Harmony Association Executive Board and Home Mission Board. He had conducted shaped note singing schools throughout the Harmony Association churches. Since the early 1940s, he had been a member of several gospel quartets. He was an active farmer and former member of the ASCS Committee in Roane County.

He had served in the CCC Camps. Surviving relatives includes his wife of 58 years, Maysel J. McCune Parsons of Newton, W.Va.; daughter, J. Carolyn Fisher of Dunbar, W.Va.; sons, Virgil E. Parsons of Elkview, W.Va., Squire E.

Parsons Jr. Leicester, Thomas W. Parsons of Alum Creek, W.Va.; brothers, Mack M. Parsons of Dixie, W.Va., Virgil L. Parsons of Lynco, W.Va.; sisters, Nellie McQuain Courtney of Linden, W.Va., Ruby Leach of Nallen, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dempsey, Maynard, Delford Pete and Senate Parsons; half-brothers, Calvin, Jimmy and Freddy Parsons; sister, Delena Hensley; half-sister, Mamie Rhodes. He was the son of the late James David Williams and Cynthia Staton Williams. He was a lifelong resident of Henderson County and was a member of Refuge Baptist Church.

Survivors include his sons, David Williams of Atlanta, Jimmy Williams of Hendersonville; daughters, Florence Ann Pressley and Brenda Sanford of Hendersonville; brother, Troy Williams of Hendersonville; sisters, Belle Cox and Inez Griffin of Hendersonville. WILLIE LOU JORDAN HENDERSONVILLE Willie Lou Jordan, 97, of 1410 Greenville Highway, died Easter Sunday, April 7, 1996. She was born Dec. 24, 1898, in Henderson County where she lived all of her life. She was a daughter of the late W.C. Jordan and M.

Low L. Simmons. She was preceded in death by her brother, Noble Jordan; sisters, Katie Lee Jordan, Bessie Jordan and Eva McFadden; niece, Bessie Mae McFadden. She graduated from Women's College in Greensboro. She began teaching in the Henderson County School System in 1924.

During her 40-year career, she taught at Mills River School, Edneyville School and West Henderson High School. She retired in 1964. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakdale Cemetery, Hendersonville, with the Rev. John Rhymer officiating.

Friends will receive after the service Wednesday at the home. The body will lie in repose from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Thos. Shepherd Son Funeral Directors, Hendersonville. MAX THOMAS HONEYCUTT Max Thomas Honeycutt, 60, of 71 Rosecrest died Sunday, April 7.

1996, at Memorial Mission Hospital after an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was formerly employed with the Town of Woodfin in the maintenance department and Burlington Industries. He was the son of the late Melvin T. and Stella B. Honeycutt.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Joyce Moore Honeycutt; daughters, Sharon D. Castle of Germantown, Donna A. Turner of Woodfin, LaVonda M. Honeycutt of Raleigh; sisters, Anne Lucille Richards of Las Vegas, Lillian Marie Anderson of Canoga Park, Iva Jylene Blankenship of Asheville; brothers, Scovell Honeycutt of Woodfin, Toney Honeycutt of Fairview, Jack Honeycutt of Woodfin, V.J. of 188 Arrowood Place, died Sunday, April 7, 1996, at Hospice Solace Center after an extended illness. lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired in 1974 from the N.C. State Highway Department and served as manager with the Down Town Motel for 10 years. A member of Mount Zion Free Will Baptist Church, he was a son of the late Willard Boyd and Alice Mae Elkins Rice. He also was preceded in death by his daughter, Bonnie Mae Rice.

A native of Asheville, N.C., she was the daughter of the late William and Luster Carson Brown and the wife of the late Harry C. Noland. She moved to Salisbury from Barstow, in 1994. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, David and Marietta Noland of Salisbury; four stepsons, William L. Noland of Asheville, Kenneth Noland of Bennington, Massen Noland Amagansett, N.Y., Harry C.

Noland of Hampton Roads, two grandchildren, Matthew A. Noland, Rebecca C. Noland, both of Salisbury; and several stepgrandchildren. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Southern Memorial Gardens in Dunkirk, Md. Holloway Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

NORMAN LEWIS WILLISTON, Fla. Norman Stepp Lewis, 78, of Williston, was found dead, Wednesday, April 3, 1996, following his disappearance two years ago. A native of Asheville, he was the son of the late Joseph S. and Nellie Stepp Lewis. He moved to Williston, in 1983 from the Panama Canal Zone.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, retiring after 20 years of service. He was a member of BPO Elks in Cristobal, Panama Canal Zone, DAV Waldo Buddy Bruns Post No. 52 in Williston, USS Yorktown CV 5 Club, USS Fletcher DD445, Panama Canal Society of Florida Inc. and Fleet Reserve Association Branch 173 in Campville.

He is survived by his brother, Joe Lewis of Williston, sisters, Pauline Beckstead of Orlando, Ruth Collings of Williston, Dorothy Leister of Indialantic, stepson, Bill Bloomberg of San Diego, a stepdaughter of Fort Worth, Texas; several nieces and nephews; many relatives and friends in the Asheville area. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Knauff Funeral Home, Williston, with the Rev. William Hensley officiating. Burial will be in V.A.

Tuesday, April 9, 1996 HAZEL COLE Hazel Clarke Cole, 89, formerly of Vanderbilt Apartments, died Wednesday, April 3, 1996, in an Asheville hospital.

Born in Greer, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Fredrick P. and Nona Clarke. She was a graduate of Greer High School and Commercial College in Spartanburg, S.C. She was a former employee of the bookkeeping department of Bon Marche Department Store and was an Avon representative for more than 50 years. She was a member of Avon Presidents Club and was married to the late Jack Cole, a violinist and entertainer who was well known in the late 1920s and 1930s.

She is survived by her Hazel Cole daughter, Martha Pollack of Char- Hazel Cole Myrtle DeBruhl Sluder, born April 23, 1923, died Tuesday, April 2, 1996. She was a kind, caring woman, who loved many and was loved by many. Born to Edward Simpson and Belle Zora Arrowood DeBruhl in the Alexander section of Buncombe County, she was the youngest of seven, all deceased. She and her husband son moved to Michigan in 1952 lived there until 1971 when and they moved to Tucson, Ariz. She is survived by her husband, Martin Charles Sluder; son and daughter-in-law, Terence and Jill Martin; grandson, Aaron and his wife, Mary; granddaughter, Monica; numerous in-laws, nephews, and nieces.

Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Manzanita Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. LILLIAN HUGHES CANTON, Ohio Lillian Tucker Hughes, 91, of Canton, Ohio, died Thursday, April 4, 1996. CUTSHAW N.C. 28721. ALICE GREEN CLYDE Kenneth Henry Cutshaw, 75, of Route 1, Hyder Mountain Road, Clyde, died Sunday, April 7, 1996, at his home. A lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Julius P. and Hazel Evans Cutshaw.

He was a retired employee of Dayco Corp. and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Fincher's Chapel United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty McCracken Cutshaw, who died May 26, 1995. He is survived by his son, Dean Cutshaw of Waynesville; sisters, Grace Caldwell and Willie Pitts of Waynesville; brothers, Troy, Robert and Carl Cutshaw of Waynesville; two granddaughters.

Box 532, Clyde, CLARKTON Alice McAulay Clark Green, 74, of 65 West Green died Saturday, April 6, 1996, at her home.

Born in Clarkton, on Jan. 13, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Sadie McAulay and Oscar L. Clark Jr. She was a lifelong member of Clarkton Presbyterian Church and had served as deacon and elder. She was a graduate of Queens College in Charlotte.

Following her graduation, she taught at Clarkton School. She was active in Woman's Club and. Presbyterian Women. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was very caring of her many friends, neighbors and her extended family.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Rosa Lee Clark Caldwell and her brother, Clyde Withers Clark. Surviving are her husband, James C. Green; daughters, Sarah Frances "Sally" a Green of Wilmington, Susan Clark Green Ramsey of Jacksonville; son, James C. Green Jr. and wife, Daphne of Clarkton; brother, Oscar Leslie Clark of Clarkton; grandchildren, Holly Green, Will Jake and Sam Ramsey.
