Or the sight of Germain Greer on the convention floor, her six-foot slender body covered by a white T-shirt and denim overalls. (It gave her credibility with anybody who'd read the July issue of "Ms." where the feminist and author of the "Female Eunich" said she's gotten rid of all her clothes that aren't comfortable.) There's more, but it escapes me. Quite a thing, a convention. 111 Ckvrt-k tl.

"Just like Coney Island," she squealed, "only a nicer classa people." And the disgruntled waiter who looked at the dollar tip on his tray and mumbled, "I hope the Republicans do better, they're the ones that got it." Or the 8 shuttle-bus ticket fraud everybody fell for. The buses all but disappeared after a day. Or the taxi driver who passed me twice as I hoofed it to Convention Center opening night.

"Still walkin'? Serves By MARTHA CANFIELD Free Press-Gannett Service MIAMI BEACH When the delegation from the Green Mountain State cast its 12 votes for McGovern and party unity Wednesday night, it was all over but the shouting almost. The small band of Vermonters took their first real break of the week and threw a party back at their beachfront hotel a mile north of Convention Hall. Being Yankees, they thought they ought to justify it. They'd saved $200 by not using their caucus room at the Fontainebleau. (The mezzanine at the San Souci was free).

Thus, money for a party. The beach was quiet Thursday morning behind the Fontainebleau Hotel, the Democratic National Committee headquarters. In fact it was downright bucolic. A few bodies soaked up sun on beach chairs that rent for 11.04, according to the sign. Occasionally the quiet was disturbed by the rumble of a barmobile along the patio and by Betty Friedan, whose voice carries farther than others, at the National Women's Policital Caucus beachside strategy session.

With the serious business finished, a few of the lighter moments surfaced. By failing to show up, Fischer gave Boris Spassky a 2-0 lead in the scheduled 24-game series.

Lothar Schmid, the chief referee, told reporters: "The match is not finished. We will now have the third game on Sunday." The Russian won the first game Wednesday. According to the rules Spassky must have 12 points to win. Fischer, the challenger, needs 12 This means 10 more unplayed games may be required if Fischer continues his boycott. War Foe Is Challenged As Tapers' Trial Juror LOS ANGELES (AP) The prosecutor in the Pentagon Papers trial tried to remove from the tentative jury Thursday a woman who said she opposes the Vietnam War, and if not a juror, would hope for Daniel Ellsberg's victory.

Marie Goldstein, the wife of a physician, was the only prospective juror questioned who expressed extensive knowledge of the case in which Ellsberg and Anthony Russo are charged with espionage conspiracy. She swore she would lay aside her feelings and judge the case impartially and fairly. Assistant U.S. attorney David Nissen, exercising the first challenge for cause since jury selection began Monday, claimed Mrs. Goldstein should be removed from the panel because "we feel she has demonstrated she could not be an impartial juror." Chester Ketcham of Middlebury, attorney for the public, agreed to allow Vermont Electric Co-op to institute a 16.25 per cent temporary rate increase.

That increase, according to Ketcham and Frederick Fayette, the Burlington lawyer for the coop, will go to meet increased wholesale power costs. Central Vermont Public Service Corp. of Rutland recently instituted a more than 90 per cent increase in wholesale costs. The CVPS increase will stay in effect unless overturned or reduced by the Federal Power Commission. Vermont Electric Co-op, according to William J.

Gallagher, a company official, buys much of its power from CVPS. In return, Fayette agreed not 5 to put a 15.8 per cent rate boost into effect until Oct. 1. This is a general rate increase and unconnected with wholesale power costs. Fayette also agreed not to recoup the amount of money lost by not having the 15.8 per cent increase in effect now, and not to file for additional increases until Jan.
