1947 March 24. 1989 Sept. 8, 1922 March 28, 1989 ROCHESTER, Minn. Laurel M. Pennock, 80, a former Salem resident, died Feb.

13 in Rochester. He served as principal at Highland Elementary School during the 1947-48 school year, and later became associate executive director of the National Association of Elementary School Principals. He is survived by his wife, Ellen; and daughter, Susan. SJ, 4189 LEBANON Juanita Rose Bones Price, 61, died Thursday in Lebanon. She was born in Lincoln County and had lived in many cities before moving to Salem in 1963.

She later lived in Albany before coming to Lebanon. She had worked as a bartender at Shirley's Tavern, and later worked as a cook at nursing homes, including Linn Care Center in Albany. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by her companion, Larry Followwill; sons, Calvin McFar-land, Larry McFarland and Lonnie McFarland, all of Salem, and Charles McFarland of Prescott, daughters, Marjorie Kirkland of Monmouth, Mary Lou Smart of Edna Bay, Alaska, and Gerry Bradshaw of Beaver, Utah; and sister, Lucille Bolden of Lincoln City. Graveside services will begin at 2 p.m.

Monday in South Yamhill Cemetery, McMinnville. Visiting will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Huston mortuary, Lebanon.

SJ, 4189 FALLS CITY William Donald Nicholls, 66, died Tuesday in Corvallis. He was born in North Bay, Ontario, and was raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and Lansing, Mich. He earned a bachelor's degree from Bob Jones University in Tennessee, a master's degree in history from the University of Chicago, and a doctorate in medieval history from the University of Pennsylvania. He worked at Prentice-Hall publishers and McGraw-Hill publishers in New York City before retiring and moving to Falls City.

He had served as mayor and city council member in Falls City, and he also ran a small business. He was a World War II Army veteran. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, reading and playing the piano, and he was active in the Boy Scouts. He is survived by his wife, LaVona, whom he married on Oct. 17, 1980, in Portland; sons, Don of Seattle, David of Detroit, and Mike of Chicago; daughters, Doreen Nicholls of Detroit and Oaudree Nicholls of Chicago; and sisters, Doreen of Arizona and Shirly Chjorbajian of Racine, Wis.

Moore, 6, of Salem died Thursday in McMinnville. He was born in Silverton and lived in Salem. Survivors include his mother, Tammy L. of Salem; grandparents, Ron and Vicki Moore Sr. of Molalla, and Butch and Mary Jasperson of Salem; great-grandfather, Wilbert A.

Baechler July 30, 1916 March 31, 1989 GATES Frank D. Baechler, 72, died Friday in Salem. He was born in Fort Collins, Colo. He had worked as a mechanic for the U.S. Forest Service for 22 years.

He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Mill City and the Mill City Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed woodworking and the outdoors. He is survived by his wife, Wyoma, whom he married on Dec. 26, 1966, in Reno, daughter, June Lietz of Dundee; and sisters, Loretta Miller of Escondito, Alice Salandra of Laguna Hills, and Eleanor Seaman of Fort Collins.

Memorial services will begin at 3 p.m. Monday at the church. Weddle mortuary of Stayton is handling arrangements. SJ, 4189 INDEPENDENCE Barbara Nell Egelston, 84, formerly of Salem, died Friday in Independence. She was born in Antelope and graduated from Oregon Normal School in 1923 and Oregon State College in 1942.

She was a teacher in Wendell, Idaho; Stayton; Monmouth High School; and, from 1946 until retiring in 1975, McKinley Elementary in Salem. She married H. Clay Egelston in 1926 in Idaho, and he died in 1977. She was an avid sports fan and bridge player. Survivors include her nephews, Cliff Stump of Monmouth, Art Stump and Bob Hixson, both of Eugene, and Harvey Hixson of Crooked River; and niece, Norma Morrison of Redmond.

Memorial services will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Farnstrom mortuary, and private inurnment will be in Mount Crest Abbey, Salem. Contributions may be made to the medic units in care of Southeast Fire District No. 1, Monmouth 97361. SJ, 4189 Clarence L.

'Cougar' Hoogerhyde Sept. 14, 1908 March 31, 1989 Clarence L. "Cougar" Hoogerhyde, 80, of Salem died Friday in Salem. He was born in Medford and graduated from Medford schools. He lived in Oregon and California before coming to Salem 15 years ago.

Survivors include his daughter, Kareen Don of Chandler, and son, Gary of Roseburg. At the deceased's request there will be no formal services. Rigdon-Ransom mortuary is handling arrangements. SJ, 4189 PORTLAND David Lloyd Allen, 42, a former Salem-area resident, died of cancer March 24 in Portland. He had worked for the Multnomah County Probation Service, then worked as a corrections officer for the Department of Corrections Release Center in Turner.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; son, Matthew; brother, John; and parents, Lloyd and Audrey Allen. Services were held on Thursday at Glencullen Baptist Church in Portland. Contributions may be made to the Kaiser Permanente Hospice program or the charity of one's choice. SJ, 4189 Wallace Edward 'Pat' Ayres Jan. 26, 1912 March 31, 1989 PALM SPRINGS, Calif.

Wallace Edward "Pat" Ayres, 77, a longtime Salem Agripac employee, died Friday in Palm Springs. He was born in Junction City on the farm where his current home stands. He graduated from Oregon State University in food management, and worked for Agripac Canning in Salem for 40 years. He was most recently a sales manager there. He was a member of Shadow Hills Country Club and the Elks Lodge.

He recently spent winters in Palm Springs and summers in Junction City. Survivors include his wifa, Nell Mogan-Ayres; son, Roger of Anchorage, Alaska; daughters, Jean Clem of Portland and Joanne Wells of Davis, and stepdaughter, Marty Brown of Salem. McPherson, 84, formerly of Dallas, died Thursday in Oregon City. She was born in Liverpool, England. She was a secretary in a real estate office until retiring in 1972. She lived in Dallas from 1964 to 1984, when she came to Oregon City. Survivors include her son, Stewart W.

of Dallas; and daughters, Marilyn Anunsen of Portland and Barbara Kronser of Oregon City. Graveside services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday in Restlawn Memory Gardens, Salem. SJ, 4189 Thelma Irene McDonald Sept. 22, 1906 March 30, 1989 ALBANY Thelma Irene McDonald, 82, died Thursday in Albany. She was born and raised in West Virginia, and had lived in Indiana and Arizona before coming to Albany in 1966. She received a teaching degree from Arizona State University and was a school teacher for 45 years. After her retirement, she continued as a substitute until she was 75.

She married Vernon McDonald on Dec. 26, 1929, in Connersville, Ind. He died in 1987. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxiliary. She is survived by her sons, Merton "Mac" of Jefferson, John of Tut3on, and Don of Los Angeles; and sister, Hulda Hudson of California.

He was born and raised in Portland and lived there most of his life. He joined the Oregon National Guard when he was 15, and he served in the 420th Field Artillery in the South Pacific during World War II.

He was a surveyor for the Bureau of Land Management until retiring in 1980. He was a surveyor trainer for the state of Alaska for five years, and he retired and came to Lincoln City in 1983. He was an agent for Real Estate 100 in Lincoln City. He married Jean Williamson on Jan. 10, 1942, in Vancouver, Wash.

Survivors include his wife; son, Keith N. of Seattle; and daughter, Judith L. Matza of Portland. Memorial services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the River View Cemetery Chapel in Portland.

She was born in Lacomb, and she moved to the Wendling area in 1907.

She graduated from Marcola High School and attended Oregon Normal School. She taught primary grades in Wendling and Mabel schools. She married Clarence Alford on Sept. 11, 1920, in Eugene, and she and her husband owned and operated the Wendling Dairy for many years. Her husband died in 1974.

She was a member of the Shedd United Methodist Church and the Home Extension Unit. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann Dannen of Shedd. Memorial services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Mennonite Home Chapel, Albany. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m.

Hawtin, 90, died Friday in Albany. She was born in Pittsburgh, and she lived in Salem and Port Townsend, before moving in 1913 to Gray's Station, south of Albany. She moved to Woodburn in 1923 and returned to Albany in 1927. She married Horace Hawtin on June 26, 1927, in Woodburn, and he died in 1967. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her niece, Helen Hilse of Marysville, Wash. Graveside services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday in Orleans Cemetery, Albany. Fisher mortuary is handling arrangements. SJ, 4189 DEATH INFORMATION A 24-hr recorded message.
