6-1 8 20. West Georgia 5-2 3 Senators firm against Yashin Losing their last two games won't melt the Ottawa Senators' resolve against yielding to center Alexei Yashin's demand for a new contract. Yashin, who ranked sixth in scoring last season with 94 points, has refused to honor the final year of his contract and is working out in Switzerland. A dispute is brewing over whether Yashin will remain under contract to the Senators if he .0. misses the entire season, with the NHL strongly backing the club and the NHL Players Association supporting Yashin.

"Next year, we had budgeted a substantial raise for Alexei Yashin," said Roy Mlakar, the Senators' president and chief executive officer and a former King executive. "Not this year. His contract is over next year. I sent a -memo to Mark Gandler (Yashin's agent) to hold a great farewell party when he's 31 (and can be an unrestricted free agent). He picked the wrong owner and the wrong team." Los Angeles Times The Associated Press MONTREAL Mariusz Czerkawski had a goal and two assists and Gino Odjick scored his first goal of the season with less than five minutes left in the third to give the New York Islanders a 4-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night.

Odjick broke a 2-2 tie when he tipped Kenny Jonsson's slap shot from the left point past Canadiens goalie Jose Theodore 15:08 into the third period. Theodore entered the game 7:31 into the second period when Montreal starter Jeff Hackett was injured in a collision along the boards while chasing a loose puck. Hackett, who had stopped all eight shots he faced to that point, was sent flying backwards on to the ice after colliding with New York forward Steve Webb. Flyers sign Samuelsson: At Philadelphia, the Flyers signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Ulf Samuelsson to a two-year contract. Terms of the deal were not released.

The 35-year-old Samuelsson is entering his 16th NHL season, having played for Hartford, Pittsburgh, the New York Rangers and Detroit. Ali, who retired 18 years ago, loved to whimsically announce his retirements and comebacks during his reign as heavyweight champion. Well, he's still at The 57-year-old boxing great, afflicted by Parkinson's syndrome, says his latest comeback claim should be taken lightly.

"Sorry, folks, not this time," he said in a statement Monday. His publicists said he was not serious when he wrote in the current issue of Newsweek magazine that he planned a return to the ring. "It was just me being me," the statement said. In the article, the former three-time champion said he wanted to fight again and he planed to get in shape despite his slowed speech and movement. "Now I'm fighting Parkinson's disease.

But I don't let it stop me. I still travel, attend to my business, do interviews," Ali wrote. "And let me tell you something that'll shock the Earth. I'm going to train and get in really good shape, lose 35 pounds and do an exhibition! in Madison Square Garden with two' or three contenders," he added. "I'll dance for 15 rounds, and whup 'em.

I haven't forgotten. I'll be weighing in at 210 pounds. I'll just say, 'I am returned. Get the contract' But Ali backed off that in an open' letter to his fans. "Although my interview with.

Newsweek was a serious one, my claim to return to the ring was said irf jest," he said. "It is exciting that I still get this kind of response from the press and public with the pros-1 pect of my returning to the ring."
