Ashe, 86, of the Dillardtown Community, died Saturday, Aug. 21, in a Haywood County nursing center. A lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was retired from Mead Paper Corporation and was a member of Wilkesdale Baptist Church. He was the husband of the late Vera Buchanan Ashe and was the son of the late William and Amanda Jane Ashe. Surviving are a daughter, Judy Miller of Asheville; and a grandchild.

Edmonds WEAVERVILLE The Rev. James Fulton "Big Jim" Edmonds, 78, of 20 Edmonds Road, died Friday, Aug. 20, in an Asheville hospital. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Aster Fulton and Minnie Sue Rice Edmonds. He was a retired minister and was a former pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and member of VFW Post No. 5483 of Mars Hill. Surviving are his wife, Meece Sprinkle Edmonds; three daughters, Elizabeth Shook of Asheville, Joyce Robinson and Pat McMahan, both of Weaverville; six sons, Gary, Lonnie, Zane, and Alan Edmonds, all of Weaverville, Craig and Wesley Edmonds, both of Barnardsville; two sisters, Eva Kent of Asheville and Vistula Robinson of Weaverville; a brother, the Rev. John R. Edmonds of Weaverville; and 17 grandchildren.
