LAZY OLD SOUL GLASGOW.

Scotland (APi -Mrs. Barbara Stone, celebrating her 100th birthday in Glasgow, said she had one complaint: "My relatives do too much for me. They are making me a lazy old soul." A 1 By ROGER LeCOURS Eighth in A Series This installment continues with the major programs recommended by the Winooski Model Cities project's Health Team. The first recommendation, a Child Health Program, was discussed in the seventh installment. The other three are a System for Data Collection, Storage and Retrieval; Neighborhood Aides; and a Health, Education, and Welfare Center.

and its aides fill some of the pressing needs but many still go without care. The Health Team says the "less educated poor" are misinformed, fearful, and ignorant about symptoms and illnesses and that help must be brought to them. According the Health Team, Winooski has a core of some 400 families who receive "less than average" health care, substandard education, and who exist in a "precarious" financial state. MARCH 4 (Mary Fletcher and DeGoesbriand units of Vermont Medical Center, and Fanny Allen Hospital) maintain separate records. There is no coordination of these records and exchanges of health data are incomplete," says the Health Team. While emergency service is available at the hospital units, a person has little assurance of continuing care, said the Health Team. "Although Winooski probably has much of the 'family doctor' heritage, because its physicians try to fill most of the needs of their patients, there is little continuing, comprehensive, and family oriented service. Hospital specialty clinics and in-patient care tend to be problem oriented rather than person oriented," said the Health Team.

It adds that more than 50 privately funded groups in Chittenden County provide a wide spectrum of welfare service, ranging from food stamps and unemployment checks to rehabilitation of crippled children and marital counseling. Winooski is served by 15 of these agencies. The Health Team reports that there is poor coordination of these efforts, there is no common record system, and it is not unusual for a single family to be serviced by several of these agencies. There is overlapping, duplication, and loss of time and effort in making appointments, traveling to different offices, and waiting for reports. It is the belief of the Health Team that a Health.

Education, and Welfare Center, to coordinate and consolidate all these efforts will provide Winooski citizens with better health care. The problem. OUTDOOR Recreation SHOW MARCH 28-29-30 Data Collection, Storage And Retrieval In its report, published in the Model Cities Comprehensive Plan book, the Health Team states that although much information regarding health problems and hospitalized illness is available, there is little data concerning minor illness and ambulatory patient care.

"The direct and interlocking Health, Education, and Welfare Center "Winooski is served by four physicians in the city, and by an unknown number in Burlington. Each keeps his own records. With the proposed data collection system, the Health Team believes problems in the early years of life can be detected and followed from then on. "Proper planning and use of the system will permit regular search for problems and surveillance of progress made in their solution. Thus prevention can be fitted to individual needs, even in large groups." said the Health Team. Neighborhood Aides The Health Team reports the growing complexity of the health care system has led to an increasing shortage of health professionals. "It is unlikely that health education can keep up with the demand for highly trained doctors, dentists, nurses and technicians.

Most professionals are now overburdened, and therefore tend to limit their availability." it states in the Comprehensive Report. The Health Team says because it is often difficult to reach a physician, many persons wait weeks for routine appointments and preventive service. "Many individuals faced with going to the doctor or going without care, accept the latter alternative," it added. The Health Team finds that the Visiting Nurse Association Fey To Address Chamber Dinner Dr John T. Fey.
