AFTERNOON FLIGHT Arrlvol By DANA COOK A 27-6 victory over West Rutland High Saturday may have been just what (he doctor ordered for the South Burlington High football team. "This was a key game for us." explained Coach Frank Arena, who credited his Rebels with bouncing back from a 58-0 loss to Mont-pelier the previous Saturday. "If we had lost this one we really would have been hurting," Arena admitted. "Now I think we are in good shape." Spirit was high during practices the week after the 58-0 Montpclier beating and it paid off Saturday against West Rutland. The Rebs had dropped their opener to Winooski High, 27-7.

Mike Julow, 5-foot-6, 160-pound senior halfback, scored all tour Rebel touchdowns. In the second period, he took a fourth down pass from Steve Leonard for a nine-yard TD play. The score was tied 6-6 at halftime. In the third quarter, Chris Towle passed to Julow for an 18-yard TD play. John Keech ran for the point after to give the Rebs a 13-6 lead they never lost.

Tba Rebels wrapped up the victory with 14 points In the fourth period, scoring In two unorthodox ways. Middle linebacker Larry Hayes intercepted a West Rutland pass at the 50 yard line, ran 25 yards and fumbled. Julow scooped up the loose ball and raced the final 26 yards to the end zone. Keech again scored the extra point as lie took a halfback pass from Julow. Julow intercepted a West Rutland pass and ran 40 yards for the final TD.

Keech rushed for the extra point. Coaches Arena and John Woods, assistant, praised the offensive line play of Dave Lavalette, a 6-foot, 185-pound senior end, and Brad Gardner, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound guard. Defensively, tackle Larry Martin (5-8, 180) and linebacker Kerch (5-8, 175) drew praise from the South Burlington coaching staff. The Rebels play three of the strongest Division II teams in the state in the next three weeks: Hartford, Middlebury and Lyndon Institute. All three are away games.

"We're going to give them all trouble," promised Arena. South Burlington scouted Hartford in its 46-0 win over North Country Union several weeks ago and Arena feels the Rebels "will have to stop their off-tackla plays." Dtparfur 4:30 P.M. 5:45 P.M. 6:15 P.M. 6:45 P.M.
