Shepherd's goal then ended Burlington's run of 11 straight losses. Shelly Paquette had five saves for BHS (1-11). MAU 1, Spaulding 1 (0T) BRISTOL Kelly Cram converted a Biff Steggerda assist midway through the second half to lift Mount Abraham into a draw with Spaulding.

After a scoreless first half, Christina Zorzi scored on a Juliet Rose assist to give the H.S. field hockey Crimson Tide (5-3-3) the lead. Cram answered for the Eagles (4-4-3) eight minutes later. Danielle Duquette stopped 11 shots while Saralynn Purinton had nine saves for Mount Abraham. SBHS 4, Middlebury 0 SOUTH BURLINGTON Anna Garahan had one goal and one assist and Stephanie Wise had two assists to pace South Burlington over Middlebury.

The Rebels (7-3) were up only 1-0 at halftime, but scored three more in the second half, on goals by Ashley Crook, Rebecca Tavares and Kate Madden. Rachel Davidson kept Middlebury (5-4-2) off the scoreboard with seven saves. pick up the victory. Willie Brown had 11 stops for the Wildcats. Spaulding 6, Randolph 0 RANDOLPH Sani Siric had a natural hat trick to help Spaulding shut down Randolph.

The Crimson Tide went up 3-0 on goals by Scott Bullis, K.C. Miller and Travis Hulbert before Siric tallied three straight. Jeff Spring had six saves for Spaulding (7-4). Randolph fell to 0-6-2. Lake Region 2, Montpelier 1 ORLEANS Justin Kipp and John MacFarlane scored second-half goals, the latter with five minutes left to play, as Lake Region slipped past Montpelier.

Lee Feerick picked up the victory with four stops for the Rangers (2-5-4). Will Root scored in the first half and Matt Spaulding stopped four shots for the Solons (3-8). Harwood 3, Lyndon 1 LYNDON Goose LaCroix scored a pair of goals a minute apart in the second half to send Harwood past Lyndon. Lyndon's Theo Mansur and Harwood's Francis Faillace traded goals in the first half before LaCroix converted a penalty kick and a Clint Harrison assist to give the Highlanders the victory. Matt O'Brien stopped three shots for Harwood (5-5-1) while Caleb Teske turned back four for the Vikings (3-6-1).

Winooski 2, Danville 1 WINOOSKI Andrew Mum-ford converted a D.J. Desautels assist midway through the second half as Winooski celebrated homecoming by surprising Danville. Admir Hodzic of Winooski and Danville's Rob Woodward traded goals in the first half be- (6-2-2). Nick Fortin sealed the win on an assist from Girard five minutes into the second half. Both goalies, Hazen Converse of North Country and Jesse Outly of South Burlington, had four saves.

Middlebury 2, Vergennes 0 MIDDLEBURY Zach Hofer-Shall set up a first-half goal then scored a second-half goal to lead Middlebury to its first win and handing Vergennes its first defeat. Hofer-Shall assisted Joe Isen-berg's goal 10 minutes into the match and notched an insurance marker with 10 to play. Middle-bury is 1-8-1; Vergennes is 7-1-3. Lamoille 5, Milton 1 HYDE PARK Mark Martell netted a pair of goals to lead a balanced attack as Lamoille overwhelmed Miltoa Justin Gillen, Andrew St. Cyr and Matt Roy added single scores for the Lancers (6-4-1).

Nick Kro-pelin stopped 12 shots in the win. A. J. Bergeron had the goal while Shaun Kent and Chris Preston teamed for 11 saves for the Yellowjackets (2-7-1). Northfield 3, Hazen 2 (OT) HARDWICK Jamie Mac-Martin found the net 38 seconds into overtime as Northfield blew a 2-0 lead but rebounded to beat Hazen.

Stephen Sullivan converted a Pat Wright assist then Wright scored to give the Marauders (8-1-1) a two-goal advantage. Hazen (2-8) forced the overtime when Ian Drown scored twice on assists from Ryan Renaud in a six-minute span. Mark Finch stopped 10 shots to Free Press Staff Reports ST. ALBANS Casey Pearo netted a pair of goals as BFA-St. Albans put an end to Champlain Valley's 27-game boys high school soccer unbeaten streak Thursday afternoon with a 3-1 victory at the Collins-Perley Sports Complex.

The Bobwhites (7-1-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals by Ben Cullen and Pearo. The Crusaders (9-1) got to within one on a goal by Hugo Valencia, but Pearo sealed the win for BFA with his second goal later in the half. Ben Gorton had three saves for the Bobwhites and Nate Burris stopped six shots for CVU. BFA's victory also put an end to the unbeaten streak of CVU coach Dan Shepardson. Shepard-son's teams at Northfield and Hi-nesburg had gone 82 games (75-0-7) since his last varsity boys soccer loss in October of 1987.

Essex 2, Mount Mansfield 1 ESSEX JUNCTION Chris Zura knocked in a cross from Ashton Harrewyn with six minutes to go in the second half to provide the difference in Essex's win over Mount Mansfield. Zura who has 15 goals on the year and at least one in all but one of the Hornets' 10 games opened the scoring on a penalty kick in the first half. The Cougars (6-4) pulled even with five minutes left in the first half but Zura struck again to give Essex the victory. Mark LaBonte stopped six shots in the win for the Hornets (7-3). Peter Hassler made six saves for Mount Mansfield.

Burlington 1, SJA 0 (OT) ST. JOHNSBURY Alex McKenzie finished off the rebound of a Bates Wadhams assist with 13 seconds to go in the second overtime period to lift Burlington over St. Johnsbury. Omer Alicic earned the shutout his fifth of the season for the Seahorses (6-2-1) with six saves. Burlington had the better of the play for most of the contest but both sides had chances before McKenzie's winner.

Nick Roberts kept the Hilltop-pers (1-9) in the contest with a strong 12-save effort. Colchester 1, MVU 1 (OT) SWANTON Brooks Gagne and Tomy Szczypiorski traded goals in the first half as Colchester and Missisquoi battled to a draw. Gagne put Missisquoi (3-5-3) up 1-0 in the first half before Colchester (6-1-3) evened the game at 31:52 on Szczypiorski's goal. Tim Rousselle relieved injured Thunderbirds goalie Dave Martin in the overtime period and made two point-blank saves to preserve the tie. NCU 4, South Burlington 1 SOUTH BURLINGTON North Country used three first-half goals to shake off a quick deficit and rolled past South Burlington.

Will Pennington's penalty kick gave the Rebels (7-3) the lead just 15 seconds into the game. Tim Stanley, Ryan Jacobs and Tim Girard responded before the intermission for the Falcons fore Mumford's goal won it for the Spartans (2-7-1). Elvedin Orucevic and Thanh Pham stopped three and 10 shots, respectively, for Winooski. Casey White had 10 saves for the Indians (3-4-2). Stowe 0, Enosburg 0 (OT) STOWE Stowe defender Willie Sykas stopped a shot off the goal line with three minutes left in regulation to preserve a draw for the Raiders (4-2-3) against Enosburg (4-3-2).

In a game that was played mostly in the midfield, Stowe goalie Gian Talarico stopped seven shots while Hornets keeper Mitchell Demar turned back nine shots. Twinfield 0, Concord 0 (OT) PLAINFIELD Twinfield and Concord managed to chalk up another tie. Shawn Young of Concord (6-1-3) and Bill Comi of Twinfield (5-1-4) were perfect in goal with nine saves each. Trinity Baptist 4, MSCA 2 SCHROON LAKE, N.Y. Dennis Poole scored three goals to lead Trinity Baptist over Mountain Side Christian Academy.

Poole's brother Derrick scored the other goal for the Kings (7-5). Girls soccer Craftsbury 3, Canaan 0 CRAFTSBURY Jessie Se-dore scored all three goals as Craftsbury blanked Canaan. Sedore scored once in the first half and twice after the intermission while Annie Houston got the shutout for the Chargers (3-4-2). Foote, who has guided the Panthers program for 21 years, will retain her duties as women's lacrosse coach and pursue administrative duties at the school. UVM hires swim coach Gerry Cournoyer has been named the head coach of the University of Vermont swimming and diving program. Cournoyer replaces Joe Fischer, who coached the UVM program for 19 years. Fischer is now an assistant athletic director for basic instruction at UVM, directing the physical education program. A 1990 graduate of Norwich, Cournoyer has served as the head coach at Lycoming College in Williamsport, the past three years. was time for the field hockey and lacrosse position to be split.
