9 HOUSTON (Sp) Eleanor A. Sayre, Assistant Curator of Museum of Fine Arts of Boston, will initiate the University of St'. Thomas spring art lecture series on Thursday evening, February 9, 1967. A leading authority on the graphic work of Goya, Miss Sayre will discuss the relevance of the great Spanish artist to the present times. Her lecture is entitled "Goya on the Moral Problems of Today." It will be held at 8 p.m.

She took her undergraduate work at Bryn Mawr College, and has done advanced study at Harvard University. Miss Sayre is the recipient of an American Philosophical Society fellowship and Ford Foundation grant for research abroad on Goya. Presently she is engaged in preparing the first full-scale study of the artist's drawings.

The populous Houston area was in the middle of the tornado watch region, which spread from 50 miles south of Victoria northeast to a point 50 miles northwest of Baton Rouge, La. The alert, effective until 10:30 a.m., noted the threat of one or two tornadoes. Severe thunderstorms, large hail and damaging winds also were a possibility, forecasters said.

The cause of the disturbance in sunny and warm South Texas was the reaction of the warm moist, gulf of Mexico air wit Uie bone-chilling cold front mov ing with freight train speed the south. Moisture came in severa ways at San Angelo early toda but the combination of slee rain and sleet, sleet mixed wit snow and mist was enough break a rainless streak of 111 days. The precipitation was no general enough, however, start any celebrations drought-plagued farmers ani ranchers in the area. Rain also fell at Austin during the night and showers roamec wide areas of the state. Winds gusted to 40 miles an hour behind the main mass the cold front, bringing blowing dust to El Paso, Wink and Mid land during the early-morning hours.

Cold wave warnings were withdrawn for Texas. Forecasters said temperatures would slip to the "teens in the Panhandle tonight and predicted freezing rain or sleet in the rest of North Texas. A warmup was in the works for Tuesday, however, with some rain in prospect for all but the Southwest section of the state. pointed out. The sleet, light snow and rain at San Angelo was the top of a rain system that extended all the way to the Del Rio area along th Rio Gradde. The temperature slid into the 'teens at Dalhart early today.
