Rails were nixed, Boston Maine 5s gaining a point to 81 and Northern Pacific 3s gained 3-4 to 80 while fractional Josses appeared in Chesapeake corporation 5s, Illinois Central 4 3-4s and Lehigh Valley 4s. United States government bonds Irregularly lower while German bonds eased as much as a point Belgian 6 l-2s lost a point, and Polish bonds recovered sharply. GRAIN CHICAGO. May 2 crop prospects and further rains in drought sections inspired renewed selling in futures on the board of trade today.

Prices dropped a cent a bushel net and then rallied, halving the losses. At the close May was down 3-8 cent and the new crops were off 1-2 cent net a bushel. Corn finished 1-4 to 1-2 cent lower, oats were unchanged to 1-8 cent lower and rye closed 1-8 to 1-4 cent lower after recording new seasonal lows. Davis, president of West Virginia State college, lias been notified thiat the general education board, with headquarters in New Yorli city, has given the college a grant of for the purchase of library books. The grant was made on the basis of lists of needed library books which were made up by each department of the college and by the teacher training high school, and which were submitted to the board several months ago. The grant is the third that the college has received from the board within recent years. In 1924 a grant of $4,000 was given toward the erection of the college's home management house, and in 1935 $7,000 were granted for special equipment in the trade and technical division.

The forty-fourth anniversary of the opening of the college will be celebrated at Founder's day exercises Sunday at 7 p. m. in the administration buildinR. Special music will be supplied by the a cappella choir and Dean David A. Lane.
