"Melodrama is obviously full of frivolity," says author Chrlstilles, "but along with the broad comedy and the traditional characters, there is op portunlty to spoof all oversim- pllsllc notions that the 'country life' was full of bumpkins and rural simpletons. Our play supports the attitude that the values of the rural life style are healthy and valid and we had best keep in touch with them Jennings says that the lyrics and book are intended to "give credability to horse sense and native intelligence." He adds that the show employs "every marvelous comic trick in the world" with wild chase scenes, mistaken identities, intrigue, malapropisms. puns and more "The songs," says Jennings, "are full of fun, local color and Texana allusions."
