THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER www.philly.com Ell Wednesday, September 20, 2006 High Schools It's official: Ches-Mont grows by 5 Southeastern Pennsylvania Boys' Sports O'Hara's new coach beats his old team fuel further expansion. Avon Grove and Downingtown are both considering adding new high schools. Garnet Valley previously announced that it will join the Central League in 2008. Two other small SCCL schools, Devon Prep and Delaware County Christian, who do not offer some of the sports that the other schools do, are awaiting responses to their applications to other leagues. Delco Christian officials said they have applied to the Bicentennial League.

Devon Prep officials have not By Don Beideman INQUIRER SUBURBAN STAFF Ches-Mont League officials voted as expected yesterday to admit five members of the Southern Chester County League beginning next school year and set up divisions for expanded league play. They also left the door open for further expansion. The expansion would likely involve two schools, Chichester and Sun Valley, that are now full members of the Del-Val League. Separate votes to accept each of the five SCCL schools were unanimous, with representatives of all eight Ches-Mont schools Avon Grove, Bishop Shanahan, Coatesville, Downing-town East, Downingtown West, West Chester East, Bayard Rus-tin and West Chester Henderson voting in favor. Joining the league will be Great Valley, Kennett, Octorara, Oxford and Unionville.

Those schools, along with Rustin, the new school in the West Chester Area School District, will form the Blue Division, the smaller division. The others will make up the Red Division for the larger schools. There will be a provision for assessing possible alignment every two years. Sun Valley will join the Ches-Mont next year as an associate member for football and girls' soccer. The Vanguards are SCCL associate members for those sports now.

Octorara does not have football but plans are in the works to establish a program a few years down the road. Both Sun Valley and Chichester formally applied for Ches-Mont membership last week, but league officials said they would not consider the applications until March. Rick Dunlap, president of the Ches-Mont and one of the driving forces behind the expansion, said crossover games between the two divisions will not count in the standings. A champion will be crowned for each division in all sports. There are no plans for now to crown an overall champion.
