Irene was trained as a hairdresser and gave the state tests to certify new cosmetologists. She was recognized as Woman of the Year by the Soroptomist Club for her tireless work in the community as well as her work as a Republican Committee Woman.

She enjoyed cooking and travelling as well as spending time with her family in Point Pleasant, PA playing cards. Irene was a graduate of Roxborough High School, class of 1936 and organized many of their class reunions. Mary was devoted to her family, and especially enjoyed spending her time with them. Mary was the beloved wife for 54 years of the late Rudolph J. Matusek, devoted mother of Rudolph III (Joanne), Barbara Purks (Kenneth), Julius (Karen), Anne Marie (Gerald), and Bernadette Page; loving grandmother of Jason, Jeremiah, Amy, Matthew, Amanda, and the late Tina; and proud great grandmother of Gianna, Shane, Ashley, Ryleigh, Kay lee, Jordan, Madalynn, and Ludek. She is also survived by her sister Elizabeth, and brother George. She will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends.
