In 1967, Professor Pizzirusso became an instructor at Pennsylvania Military College now Widen-er University. He retired from Widener in 2004 as a full professor. While teaching, he was also a consultant to corporations including Foamex and Scott Paper and held several patents. In the 1990s, he helped develop an air-filtration system for the Defense Department to prevent sand from clogging the engines of Black Hawk helicopters deployed in deserts. Thirty years earlier, he designed a nuclear submarine heat-exchange unit for the Atomic Energy Commission.

"He was a 'super his daughter Diane Hoover said, but chose teaching over a lucrative full-time engineering career. At Widener he tutored students who were having difficulties with course work; at his grandson's elementary school in Chadds Ford, he volunteered to supervise hands-on science projects; and at schools in Chester he spoke to students about expanding their goals. Professor Pizzirusso grew up in New York. He earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. He and his wife, Rose Furnari Pizzirusso, spent their courtship in the New York Public Library while he researched his thesis.

Milnazik, 50, of Wayne, a painter and illustrator, died Friday at Paoli Hospital of complications from hip surgery. As a freelance artist, Ms. Milnazik illustrated promotional material, and commemorative items including a "Wizard of Oz" plate for Knowles China and an Elvis Presley music box. In 1995 she was commissioned to paint Elvira, the lead soprano in Bellini's I Puritani, by the Opera Company of Philadelphia. She loved opera, her brother, William, said.

Her watercolors were exhibited at local galleries, including a show at Immaculata College in 1997 that also included watercolors by her parents, Janet and Robert Milnazik. Her work was often surrealistic and symbolic. The painting for her entry in the World Trade Center Memorial Competition shows a Gothic spire rising from rough stone, topped by an angel releasing a dove. Ms. Milnazik grew up in Strafford and graduated from Cones-toga High School.

She earned a bachelor's degree from Temple University's Tyler School of Art in 1977. For most of her adult life, her brother said, she struggled with anorexia. She was kind and always interested in the lives of her friends and family, he said, but kept her own struggle private. Ms. Milnazik is survived by her parents and brother.

No funeral is scheduled. An exhibit of Ms. Milnazik's art will be shown from 3 to 7 p.m. May 20 at St. Aloysius Academy, 401 S.

Burnett A determined friend, 64 Livingston Emory Burnett, 64, of Brigantine, N.J., who was born with cerebral palsy and made friends around the world by operating a ham radio with his feet, died of pneumonia Feb. 23 at Seacrest Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Little Egg Harbor Township, N.J.

Mr. Burnett, who was known as Bill, was born in Penn Valley and attended the Matheny School for students with developmental disabilities in Peapack, N.J., until he was a teenager. His parents then retained tutors who taught him at home. When Mr. Burnett's family bought him a ham radio, his teachers helped him learn to operate it with his feet.

When computers became popular, he learned to operate them with his feet, too, and began e-mailing his worldwide circle of friends. He remained in Penn Valley until the death of his parents, W. Emory Burnett and Peyton Jones Burnett. He then moved for a while to Florida, and finally to Brigantine with his friend and caretaker, Alfred Volpe. Mr.

Burnett enjoyed listening to country music and vacationing in pie University. While in Cambridge, studying for a doctorate in physics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he faced the physical challenge of learning to swim in the Charles River so he could learn to sail. He was also a member of the hiking club. After graduating in 1948, he bicycled across Scandinavia for eight weeks. He was named a professor of physics and metallurgy at Temple in 1948.

He taught there until 1990. From 1980 until retiring in 2005, Dr. Muldawer also was head of the Chautauqua continuing education program at Temple for science teachers. He married Marcea Rosen in 1950, and the couple raised three children in Bala Cynwyd before divorcing in 1967. Dr.

Muldawer loved classical music. He started singing choral music while in college, a passion that he pursued his entire life. He sang with Singing City and the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia, and was a founding member of the Choral Arts Society. "He sang with groups led by Eugene Ormandy to Riccar-do Muti at the Academy of Music," said his wife of 23 years, Patricia, who brought two children to the marriage. RICHARD JAMES, on Feb.
