Sheriff Armstrong brought in two the last of the week who are men be the ones wanted in thought to with the murder 1 at Peaconnection weeks ago when an oil some worker was killed during a crap The Aulne State Bank closed Friday on account of shortages in the bank's accounts, occasioned, it is alleged, by defalcations of the cashier, V. O.

Johnson. Mr. Johnson, with a deputy bank examiner, appeared before County Attorney, John E. Wheeler, last Saturday night, and told the story of the defalcation. Warrant for his arrest was served Tuesday night and he was released on a bond for $5000.

At the time of his appearanc before the county attorney Saturday night, Mr. Johnson estimated the shortage at the bank would be somewhere around eighty thousand dollars. This with personal notes and other personal obligations may possibly take the total to $120,000. For a week or so prior to his appearance before the county attorney, Mr. Johnson had been in Kansas City in an effort to secure funds to tide the bank over.

He was unsuccessful and it is said that in the course of his efforts, told of the difficulty at his bank. He was advised to notify the banking department, which he did. And, as stated above appeared with a deputy from that office, before the county attorSaturday night. Owing to conflict between the bank examiner's office and the attorney general's office, the warrant for his arrest was not served until Tuesday evening, after Mr. Johnson had been in Topeka, where he was going over the accounts with the bank examiner.

Following are extracts from the story which came from the examiner's office, concerning the affair: "The bank was capitalized for $10,000 and had $100,000 deposits. The Aulne bank is operating under the state guaranty act. According to the bank commissioner, Johnson's defalcations have extended over a period of four years and were very much similar to those utilized when the Abilene State Bank was wrecked more than eight years ago. It was said Johnson's defalcations were successfully covered up by use of loose leaf bookkeeping, and that the cashier personally carried time deposits instead of placing them on the bank's accounte. Johnson used the money taken from the bank chiefly for speculation in leases, according to the infor.

mation given out by the state bank. ing depar ment. ovned forty shares of the active manager." A largo number the little folks of the city schools gave an operetta at the Methodist church Tuesday evening, under the direction of Frances Fey, supervisor of music in the schools. It was entitled "Mother Goose Co" and was exceedingly well given. A big audience thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment.
