Born in Phila. on July2 3, 1921, the only child of Herbert J.

and Mildred A. Koehler, he grew up in Camden, New Jersey, and was ag raduate (1942)o ft he University of Pennsylvania. He later moved to Haddon Township with his wife Jane, the former Jane MarieC aputi of Merchantville, NJ. Married during WW II in Tampa Florida in at en-minute church ceremony in 1944, five weeks later he was posted overseas with the Eighth Air Force. They had an ideal marriage of 62 years until Jane passed away in 2006.

During World War II, Captain Koehler, piloted aB -17 (Flying Fortress) and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with five oak leaf clusters while flying 33 missions over Europe. Mr. Koehler was al ife-long South Jersey resident who, in later years, also spent time in Avon, Ohio. Aw ell know communications executive, Mr. Koehler, in 1972, wast he founder and Vice Chairman of Gateway Communications, a television stationg roup.

Prior to the formation of Gateway, Mr. Koehlers erved with Triangle Publications, in Phila. Starting as a special events reporter when he joined radio station WFIL, Philadelphia in 1945, he was appointed station manager of WFILandWFIL-TV(Channel6, namedgeneralmanagerofthe WFILstationsaswellas generalmanageroftheRadio andTelevisionDivisionof Triangle Publications, which operated 16 AM, FM and TV stations as well as several cable systems and ap rogram production and sales company. With WFIL-TV he developed the "Action News" format and title which is widely copied throughout the country today. Throughout his years in broadcasting, Mr.

Koehler participated extensively in industry-related organizations, often in al eadership role. Also active in civic affairs in Mr. Koehler served organizations like the United Fund; the Heart Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania: the Salvation Army and Better Business Bureau. Al ifelong Rotarian, he served as president of the Rotary Club of Phila. (then 3rd largest in the world)andmostrecentlywasa memberoftheRotaryClubof Mr.

Koehler served on the board of trustees of Methodist Hospital, the National United Methodist Communications Commission; and on the board of Pennington School, New Jersey. He was active as a board member at the First United Methodist Church of Westmont, New Jersey and was currently am ember of the Hardingville Bible Church.
