The Burlington Free Prese SATURDAY, APRIL 20, 1960 O'Brien Urges Democrats To Endorse Sen. Aiken Free Press Capitol Bureau MONTPELIER Sen. John J. O'Brien, D-Chittenden-Grand Isle, of South Burlington, called Friday on Vermont. Democrats to endorse Sen.

George D. Aiken, for reelection. He was joined by Rep. John Zampieri, D-52, of Ryegate in the call. O'Brien said, "I think the Democrats should endorse Sen.

Aiken. He's a fine man a true representative of the Job of Painting 1-89 Centerline Well Under Way Free Press Capitol Bureau MONTPELIER The Vermont Highway Department has undertaken the annual job of painting the centerline on Interstate 89 from Montpelier to the Canadian border. Commissioner Lauritz S. Larsen said the task was started two weeks earlier than usual because of good weather and he said if the weather holds, it may be completed by the second week in May. He said there are 30 vacant positions in the pavement painting operation, and said this may slow the work down somewhat.

A total of 2,263 miles of state highway is scheduled for repainting each year as routine housekeeping measure. Today there are some 20 million Americans above the age of 65 and some 12,000 above the age of 100. people. He is the finest representative we have ever had in Zampieri said, probably knows more that is going on in Washington than any other senator and is the most honest." Indeed, Zampieri said he would circulate petitions 1 for Aiken with Aiken's permission. Democratic support for Sen.

Aiken has been growing in the past few weeks since Lt. Gov. John J. Daley of Rutland the man who is seeking to succeed Gov. Hoff in the executive office here called on Democrats to support the veteran Republican U.S.

senator. O'Brien said it Democrats don't endorse Aiken he will ask them to do so at the State Democratic convention in Burlington May 25. O'Brien said the Democrats haven't got any candidates for the U.S. Senate who could even come close to Aiken. "Anyone who runs against him will just make a fool of themselves," O'Brien said.

Neither O'Brien or Zampieri has decided whom they will support for the Democratic nomination for the presidency. O'Brien said there are SO many new candidates he has to reassess his position from day to day, and Zampieri said he tends to lean toward Vice President Humphrey. But O'Brien said he hopes the Vermont delegation will go to the convention unpledged. "I'm a great believer in letting people vote for whom they want," he said. Deaths and Funerals MRS.
