"Mr.

Bill's Friends," the AM kidvid series featuring Bill Norwood, will be dropped by WLOSChannel 13, effective June 10, the host confirmed this week. The 6 a.m. timeslot will be filled June 13 with an networklocal news hour. Norwood will continue as weatherman and feature reporter for the program. "I'm still with the station," Norwood said, "but after June 10, no longer as the Mr.

Bill character." "Mr. Bill" is ending because ratings indicate most viewers are adults, station manager Michael Fiorilesaid. "The most important element is Bill Norwood, and he is absolutely staying with the station," Fiorile said. "We are not taking him off the air. He will continue to do weather and school closings.

The Battle of the Summer Cinema is under way, and from early accounts, it'll be a wild free-for-all. It started last weekend, when MGM's long-awaited fantasy "Willow," opened at Asheville's Beaucatcher Cinemas. Six days later, it faced a double assault from Paramount's "Crocodile Dundee II," at the Mall and Merrimon, and Til-Star's "Rambo III," also at the Beaucatcher. "Willow" exploded like an atom bomb on opening weekend, raking in a whopping $8.3 million across the country more dough than "Raiders of the Lost Ark" or "Top Gun" grabbed on their first goarounds. The cash should soothe the nerves of creator George "Star Wars" Lucas and MGM, since this sword-and-sorcery epic, with advertising, cost an estimated million, and had been panned in early reviews.

Lucas also has his reputation on the line, becayse his last outing, "Howard the Duck," laid a monumental egg. Had "Willow" crashed on takeoff, he might as well have retired to Arizona and See BOX OFFICE, Page 2L 1 vl If I N-J''' Staff Photo By EWART BALL That's A Wrap BUI Norwood In His TV Home a it raairiaar-i SAIL INTO SUMMER IN A HOME FILLED WITH ELEGANT AFFORDABLE FURNITURE!
