They left this morning for Ka-n as City to attend the Shj-iners convention. Mr. McEwen Is Bead. Mr. Hugh R.

McEwen died this morning at 6 oclock at his home, 221 North Buckeye, in the 76th year of his age. Mr. McEwen has been in ill health for two or three years but lt.wes not until a week ago that his illness took a critical turn. At that time he suffered an attack of cerebral hemorrhage as a result of which he passed into a state of coma which continued until the end. An appropriate sketch of the long and useful life of -this good nfSm and good citizen will be published at an early date.

The funeral will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon at 3 oclock in the Adams Hesser chapel and will be conducted by Rev. J. II. Hubbard of the First Baptist church. Get the Wnt Ad Habit.

Mr. Moody Ralston, formerly of this city but now of Moran, is plajing with the Pittsburg Shriners band in Kansas City this week. The Hunchback of Notr Dame, Grand. Theatre. Miso Esther Taylor and Miss Edith Kunkleman left today for Pittsburg, Kansas, where they will attend the college this summer. Both girls are specializing in primary work. Miss Taylor just closed, a successful term of school near St. Francis, and expects to teach there again next year.

Mr. Bert Fryer left on the afternoon train for Kansas City where he will attend the Shrine convention this week. Mrs. Fryer will go up on the early morning train to join him. They expect to return home Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Christenberry of Tulsa, visited friends in Iola last night and today.

They are driving overland to Kansas City to take in the Shrine festivities. Mr. Christenberry formerly owned the Iola Laundry but is now operating two of the largest laundries in Tulsa. Dr. Montgomery, tb chiropractor, Iola laundry Bldg.

Phone 138. The visit of the. Shriners to Iola is nearly a W'eek away, but it has not yet receded so far into the past that comment is not still heard now and then Upon some features of it. And one of the things always referred to with pride mingled with surprise is the celerity and success with which the great crowd at the banquet was In spite of the fact that the feast was prepared and serv- ed away out in the woods the food came onto the tables piping and within fifteen minutes af-the 1200 Quests were seated every one had been served with a big plateful of appetizing eats. It was really quite a wonderful achievement and the ladies of th Carlyle Presbyterian church who did it are being praised and congratulated on every hand.

Miss Befcty, of Havanna, Illinois, who has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Beaty. 401 North Kentucky, is leaving for Franklin, Kentucky this evening for a visit with her brother, before returning to her home in Havanna. Mrs.

Wm. Dingman, who has been in Kansas City for several weeks where she had a minor operation, returned home last night. She is greatly improved which is good news to her friends. While in Kansas City she was the guest of her daughter, Mrs. A.
