June 2.1986 Battle between soaps will heat up summer is prime time for It's when the shows beat op story lines, particularly those teen characters, in hope of attracting the attention and continuing loyalty of vacationing youngsters. Past summers' focal points have been hot romantic duos (Luke and Laura on "General Hospital" in 1980 or 3o and Hope on "Days of Our Lives" in 1984V DIRECT Own A Satellite Dish Tired of Commercials Reruns? After many years of predictable, boring story lines, "Another World" under the direction of new executive producer Stephen Schenkel, looks as if it has a chance of recapturing at least some of its former glory. "AW" finally has the right mix of characters and talent to make it an entertaining soap.

These include a credible pair of young lovers, Catlin and Sally Ewing (Thomas Ian Griffith and Mary Page Keller), a suave older romantic pair, Cass Winthrop (played by daytime's most charmingly versatile actor, Stephen Schnetzer) and Kathleen McKinnon (Julie Osburn), and a group of strong, talented teen players, including Jane Cameron, Katie Rich and Tom Eplin, a promising new heartthrob. Drastic changes have been wrought on "One Life to Live" by its new executive producer Paul Rauch, who used to produce "AW" and who has vowed to trounce his former show. He has dramatically enhanced the production values of the show and has handpicked his acting talent for this summer's warfare. Potentially enchanting is a Pygmalion-style romance between the show's gentle hero. Bo Buchanan (Bob Woods) and young Italian Guil- lietta (Fabiana Udenio).

The show's hot summer pair is promised to be vixenish Tina Clayton (Andrea Evans) and Mitch Lawrence (Roscoe Born). "Capitol," which just marked its third anniversary, is finally hitting its stride under its brilliant new head writer, Henry Slesar, who wrote "Edge of Night" for many years.
