wr, Gustavus Adolphus. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS THE ASSOCIATED PRESS CHARLOTTE The Carolina Panthers turned their attention to defense Sunday, selecting safety Colin Branch of Stanford and defensive end Kindal Moorehead of Alabama in the NFL draft. Branch was taken in the fourth round, the 119th overall pick, and Moorehead went in the fifth round, the 145th overall pick. Their selections followed Saturday's third round selection of corner-back Ricky Manning of UCLA. "We think we got a lot of quality," coach John Fox said.

"We improved the football team." After trading their sixth round pick to Miami for two selections in the seventh round, the Panthers picked receiver Walter Young from Illinois with the 226th pick and fullback Casey Moore from Stanford with the 247th pick. Those final selections gave the Panthers six offensive players picked in the draft. Carolina used its first three choices Saturday to choose tackle Jordan Gross of Utah, center Bruce Nelson of Iowa and tight end Mike Seidman of receiver earns Mr. York Jet Joe Klecko, was Big East defensive player of the year, even though he played for lowly Temple. But at a quarter-inch under 6 feet, he is considered too short.

He was taken by Houston. The surprise on Wallace, the Iowa State quarterback, is that he went to Seattle rather than Pittsburgh, which has selected players of his type Kordell Stewart, Hines Ward and Antwaan Randle El. A scrambler under 6 feet tall, he has insisted he wants to remain at QB in the NFL Louisville. 89. San Francisco.
