For her part Kathy's Promised Greenbriar Surface Awaits Favorable Weather FRIENDSWOOD The promised gravel surfacing for Greenbriar Drive was waiting Tuesday for favorable weather.

Clly Manager Jim Morgan said the road would have to dry out before the work could be done. The city council last week authorized Morgan to spread $4,200 worth of gravel on Greenbriar, between Brlarmeadow and Casilewood, to keep the roadway usable In wet weather. The council also authorized Morgan to do what he could about the low sports on Wilderness Trail. Morgan said the work would be done by the end ol last week. But something went wrong In Columbus, Texas, from where the city ordered the gravel and the gravel was delayed.

Then It rained. The city did manager to spread two loads on Wilderness Trail but Greenbriar "is a mess" Morgan acknowledged. Jay Browning, who lives on Greenbriar, said thai if Ihe road gets any worse he will have to move Into a motel to be sure he can get to work. "I slip and slide and hope when I drive," Browning said. Committee Finds Answers To Bldg Inspection Problems FRIENDSWOOD A committee that volunteered to help the clly with building inspection problems has found an answer to half the problems and Is doing research to get solutions to the remainder, Clyde Rancy reported. Rancy. City Planning and Zoning Commission member who is serving as rommlllec chairman, reported on the committee's first meeting since ft was formed two weeks ago. Raney said the commit- IIM- agreed that strict enforcement of the Southern Building Code would make it difficult.

If not impossible, to build a house and that enforcement had to be tempered with judgment. He said the judgments would be based on the experiences of other build- Ing inspectors In the Gulf Coast area. The committee will also study the building codes used by other cities In the area. The other committee members are Herbert Caldwell. Jerry Phillips and Don Davis who are all home builders in the Friendswood area.

Mrs. Daniels says Kathy has had no trouble keeping up with the boys at practice and outran them all In the 60 yard dash with a time of five seconds flat. Mrs. Daniels makes a point of saying she feels both the team and the league "should be congratulated for being big enough to let her In." The boys. too.

4H Tries Again Show Reset Sat FRIENDSWOOD The twice-postponed games day of the Friendswood 4-H open horse has been rescheduled for Saturday. September 7. beginning at 9 a.m. at the city arena. The game day was rained out two weeks In a BROOKSIDE-Ayoung Brookslde couple missing since the 12th of August, have been found shot to death under a highway bridge near Livingston.

Michael L. and Patricia Wilson Boyd, both 28. were last seen alive when Mrs. Ooyd's car broke down In, Lufkln following a visit to her mother In Crockett, according to Boyd's father. Mllburn Boyd, also of Brookslde.

After Mrs. Boyd's car broke down her husband went to meet her on the outskirts of Lufkln and both had been missing since that time. A teenager found the bodies beneath a highway bride a mile north of Leggctt In Polk County last Wednesday. Both bodies were clothed and a dollar was found In Boyd's billfold, leading officers to bel.Ieve robbery was not the motive In the killings. A Rosary for Michael and Patricia Boyd was said at 8 p.m.

Friday evening at South Park Chapel and a Memorial Moss, conducted by Father Gerard Barrett. O.M.I., was held at St. Helen's Catholic Church In Pearland at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Interment was nl Soulh Pork Cemetary.

Michael L. Boyd Is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mllburn Boyd of Brookslde. Patricia Wilson Boyd Is survived by her parents.

Royce Usllck. Crockett; and a Grandmother, Mrs. Debbie White, of Fort Worth. Carter said tho commission decided to approve the bands when It learned that the district can begin recalling them after 11 years. The bond Issue matures In 17 years.

The commission had nixed the bond sale on grounds thai the district was proposing to use the bond money to buy equipment which commissioners thought would not last the life of the bonds. Carter said that the equipment, properly maintained, which the district proposes to buy will last longer than 11 years. Also cnlerlng Into approval was the discovery that the district voters had been told exactly what the money would be used for. Carter said the commission was also made aware of the need for continuing flood control work in Friendswood. The bonds were voted last December to purchase equipment, to cover a year's operating expenses and to pay for fiscal, engineering and legal fees.

The District funds for future operations and bond retirement will come from a 10 cent per $100 tax approved at the same time as the bonds. The district opened bids on the purchase of equipment two weeks ago bul deferred action until after the bond sale was approved. Equipment bids will be awarded at a special meeting. Tuesday. September 10.

Under state law the district requires approval from the water rights commission to sell bonds. Nye said thai Gartrell will begin Interviewing equipment operators, laborers at his office next week and that cleanup work on one of the creeks will begin October 1. Scared Of Local Lawsuit And Elevation Fued County Wants Heat Off FRIENDSWOOD Galvetton County will pave the Cowan's Creek Crossing at Sunset Drive, but there Is a hitch. The City Council will be asked to consider action Monday to assure the County that It will be Immune from any resulting lawsuits and to put In writing at what elevation the crossing Is to be constructed. City Manager Jim Morgan reported he was Informed last week by County Road Administrator Jim Horlon that the county will not proceed with paving the crossing until It gets a letter from the city stating the desired crossing elevation and holding the county "harmless" from any resulting lawsuits.

Horton told the NEWS that the letter was requested because "the county just wants to be protected." Horton explained that the county gets a lot of verbal requests and felt that the desired elevation of the creek crossing should be staled In writing. Asked specifically about tho requested lawsuit provision Horton replied. "Naturally, we don't want to be sued." Last year several Cowan's Creek residents notified the City of their Intent to file a lawsuit In connection with flooding. No further action on the matter was found In the city's files. Queried on whether there was any connection between the threatened lawsuit and the county's request, Horton simply commented, "We live and learn." Mayor Ralph Lowe said he felt that such a letter was not simply an administrative mailer bul would require an offlcal action of the council and, possibly, consultation with the clly attorney.

Mayor Lowe was disturbed by two letters he received last week from residents of the Cowart's Creek area reminding the clly that the creek crossing on Sunset was to be no higher than 22 feet. "I wish they had spoken to us first before they wrote these." he said. Abagnalc. a summer employee of Camp Manlson.

was arrested last Thursday, August 29. for the theft of art supplies and cameras from the camp. The offense was cited as theft from a vehicle and felony theft by bailee. Abagnale. age 27.

Incumbent Marilyn Lunncy. will be opposed by Gil Chlsholm. for Position One. Chlsholm, age 42. tiled- late Tuesday afternoon.

He states. "I believe that we have a good school system In Friendswood. but I think It can be Improved in certain areas." Chlsholm 1s Chief of tho Project Resources Office at NASA's Johnson Space Center. Mrs. Lunncy housewife, mother and trained nurse, aserved as secretary of the Board last year, and Is currently serving as VIce-President.

Incumbent George Roy Is unopposed for Position Two. Roy was elected first In 1967 to fill an unexplred term. He was elected in 1968 for a three-year term and reelecled In 1971 tor a three year term which expires in Octoocr. Roy has served as chairman of the communications committee and Is presently serving as Secret- ary of the Board. The two candidates running for Position Four, which was vacated by tho resignation of H.

K. Speck are Dr. Bill Jones, a retired physician, and Wesley Me- Taggart, who ran unsuccessfully last year for the board. McTaggart Is on assistant professor at the Baylor College of Medicine and bases his campaign on his desire to serve the community. Other positions' not In contest this year are Position five held by Dr.
