In 1966, with voter approval, the City of Salem assumed" operation of what had been Capital Transit Lines. For years, the city's Cherriot bus line offered some service into Keizer and East Salem, but it was ended by the City Council in July 1976.

Cherriot buses ate 14 routes; all routes run on a 30-minute schedule dnr-' ing morning and evening hours; six routes cut back to hourly service during mid-day.

Service is provided Monday through Friday from 6:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Fares are 20 cents for youth throughhigh school, 30 cents for adults and half fare for persons 65 and older or handicapped. Saturday service is free. Busesdd not operate on Sundays or holidays.

"A' in EAST SALEM The East Salem Water and Sewer District contracts with Hamman Stage Lines for no-fara-bus service along a 28-mile loop. Service starts and ends: at Lancaster Mall to meet with city buses. Buses convj plete the loop every two hours. The service costs $55000? supported by an East Salem property tax of 15 cent per $1,000 property value. KEIZER Hamman Lines also provides bus service on a contract basis in the Keizer Water and SewefBts1 trict.

Hourly service is offered along a 13-mile route as far' north as Trail Avenue N. The bus connects with the Cher riot system at Fred Meyer North. No fare is collected.
