ion Gut Asked HARRISBURG, March 6 Gov. Leader has recommended the state Fish Commission cut its spending by nearly 1C per cent with the bulk of the reduction in fish propagation and research. At the same time he suggested that the Game Commission's program be kept at near the same level for the two-year period beginning June 1-a $34,000 increase to $9,762,000. The fish budget for the next bi- ennuim calls for spending $4,425,000 compared to $4,888,462 in the current two-year fiscal period. The governor's budget proposal made no mention of a possible increase in $2.50 license fee, though the commission has outlined a proposal to double the fee.

The main reason for the reduction is that the commission started the current two-year fiscal period with $1,440,000 in the bank. The cash balance for next June 1 is estimated at only $368,959. The budget estimates that licenses and fees will being in $3,826,000 in the next two years compared to $3,412,000 in the current biennium and $3,787,000 in the 1953-55 fiscal period. An additional $40,000 should come from fines and penalties compared to $62,700 in the present biennium. Miscellaneous sources, including federal contributions, would account for $353,000.

The governor's Game Fund budget calls for "a spending program of $9,762,000 in the next two years. That's only $34,000 more- than the $9,728,000 budgeted for this biennium. Biggest revenue sources are the $3.15 hunting license fee and the special additional fee of $1.15 for hunting antlerless deer. License fees are estimated to yield $6,855,000 in the next biennium compared 'to $6,341,000 in the current fiscal period. The Game Commission'estimat- ed it will receive two millions in miscellaneous revenue, including gas and oil ground rentals and royalties, sale of publications and federal contributions.

That would compare with $1,748,000 in the current biennium. The visiting group agreed that the highlight of the trip was being taken aboard Pittsburgh's recently acquired fireboat. Captain of the fireboat, J.

Letson, explained to the visiting firemen the various uses and capacities of the myriad of equipment stowed aboard. High water and bad weather forced a cancellation of the actual demonstration of the boat, but a fire alarm was intentionally tripped along the waterfront so that a demonstration could be given of the radio equipment and teletype. Joseph Cook, Uniontown fireman, said that the boat was built in Erie and had to be towed 3,000 miles through the Great Lakes region and navigating tortuous river routes in order to be delivered to Pittsburgh The over- i land distance would have been in the neighborhood of 90 miles. He added that the ooat is powered by four General Motor 6-cylinder deisel motors and is capable of throwing out 6,000 gallons of water a minute, not including the portable pumps that can be put into use. "The boat is of 91-ton displacement, has a crew of six and is magnificently equipped," said Cook.

Because the visiting firemen weren't afforded an "under fire" given. The local firemen said that they intend doing so as soon as possible.
