After a tight first half that saw George Fox take a 38-36 lead, the Bruins from Newberg opened up a 10-pint lead early in the second half and maintained it the rest of the way. The closest Southern Oregon got in the final five minutes was eight points at 82-74. Barnhart, a 6-3 junior, was the games leading scorer with 24 points. He was foulded often by the overanxious Red Raiders and made 12 of 13 free throws.

Southern Oregon committed 25 fouls to only 13 for the Bruins and lost three players on five fouls. Van der Kooy, a 6-10 junior college transfer from the Netherlands, scored 19 points and helped George Fox to a 52-32 rebounding advantage with 11 boards. Cantonwine led Willamette with 22 points, but he was more impressive with his playmaking and pin-point inside passes, which earned him eight assists.
