If Pacheco and McMillan reach Hyde, who has many friends in Chillicothe, has been a north Missourian practically all of his life. His only absences being his four-year term at Jefferson City as governor and the past two years in Kansas City as head of an Insurance company. He was born in Princeton, Mercer county, July 12, 1877, got his early education in the Princeton schools and later received degrees from the University of Michigan and the University of Iowa. His first political effort was made in 1912 when he was the Progressive (Bull Moose) candidate for attorney general of Missouri. The Democrats at that election carried everything in Missouri.

Hyde returned to Princeton and held his first public office as Mayor of that city. -In 1920 he was elected Governor of Missouri and served from 1921 to 1925. When Selden Spencer died hi 1926, Hyde was suggested as a possible successor to Spencer in the senate but Judge Williams of St. Louis was appointed and Hyde worked hard in the Williams camp during the next senatorial election. He has long been active in Methodist church circles. He is on his way to Washington now and will be on deck March 4 to take over his new duties.

The appointment has been termed as an overture to the Lowden forces, as Hyde has.been considered as a Lowden supporter in some quarters.
