Worley. was born In Madison County and was a son of the late Ev-erette L. and Bessie Waldroup Worley. He was a former resident of Michigan where he was a self-employed landscaper for 30 years. He also lived In New York where he wa9 manager of Mason Shoe Co.

After returning to RAYMOND MONT WYATT MARSHALL Raymond Mont Wyatt, 85, of 131 Fisher Br. Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, at the home of his daughter In Swannanoa. Raymond was a member of Grapevine Baptist Church, He was a retired carpenter and farmer. He was the son of the late Rev.

Jeff Wyatt and Annie Parker Wyatt. He was preceded In death by his wife, Elizabeth Rich Wyatt; daughter, Glenada Wyatt; grandsons, Keith Bartlett; sister, Mar ALAN J. HALL FLAT ROCK Alan J. Hall, 55, of 225 Winding Meadows Drive In Flat Rock, died Tuesday, Deo. 16, 1997, at his residence.

A native of London, England, Mr. Hall was co-owner and president of Keck-Hall Supply, a major distributor of manufactured home products with divisions in Arden and Fayetteville, Charleston, S.C. and Nashville, Tenn. He was co-owner of Mintz-Hall Installations, a heating and air conditioning company servicing their own line of heat pumps and related products. Prior to his ownership of Keck-Hall, Mr.

Hall served as a senior executive with four major International corporations during his 29 year career in the Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997 WILLIAM G. SMEDLEY BLACK MOUNTAIN William George Smedley, 90, of 108 Magnolia Road, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, In an Asheville hospital. A native of Sllsbee, Texas, he was the son of the late William G.

and Susan Whitman Smedley and husband of the late June Humphries Smedley who died In 1984. He received his M.A. degree from the University of Florida and his Master of Divinity from Yale University. He had been a resident of Black Mountain since 1985 and was a member of the First Christian Church of Black Mountain. He served as a missionary for the Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church (n Paraguay, Argentina and Mexico.

In Paraguay he served as director of Coieglo International In Asuncion Paraguay. In Argentina he served ejs treasurer of Colegio Ward In Buenos Aires and In Mexico as director of Colegio Ingles In San Luis Potosl. After retiring from the mission field bS 1933 he taught Spanish In Boone High School In Orlando, until his retirement In 1975. Survivors are his wife, Thelma Nieser Smedley; daughter, Llndalu Shaughnessey of Winter Springs, sons, William George Smedley of Orlando, David Robert Smedley of Winter Springs, granddaughters, Melodie Smedley of Orlando and Silvia Tyson of Winter Springs. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m.

Sunday at Chrlstmount Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Messick officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church In Black Mountain, P.O. Box 846, Black Mountain, N.C.

28711. Penland Funeral Home, Swannanoa, Is in charge of arrangements. SUE WEAVER CULBERSON CHARLOTTE Mrs. Sue Weaver' Culberson, 79, of Charlotte and formerly of Asheville, died Monday, Dec. 15, 1997, In Mecklenburg Health Care.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Presbyterian Hospital, 200 Hawthorne Lane in Charlotte with the Rev. Craig Bollinger officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Mrs.

Culberson was born August 29, 1918 in Asheville, a daughter of the late James Marvin Weaver and Minnie Gray Weaver. She was a member of the "Tribe of Jacob" afteV whom the town of Weaverville was named. Until the past year, Mrs. Culberson spent her life In Asheville. She was educated at Lewlsburg College and Blanton's Business School and was employed for 35 years with First Union National Bank.

Following her retirement she became active In Asheville's ABCCM and also served on several committees at her church, Calvary Baptist. She is remembered as a very loving, giving person and was always willing to help anyone In need and was thought of as honest and fair In her daily work. i Survivors Include her husband, Allen Culberson to whom she woulJ have been married 57 years on Christmas Day; daughter, Susan Sechrest and her husband, Zekfc Sechrest of Charlotte; and son, Allap Culberson III and his wife, Nancy Thompson Culberson of Glen Carborf, III. She Is also survived by her grandV children, Karen Hamer and her husband, Berry, and Zachary Sechrest, all of Charlotte, Timothy Culberson oj Asheville, and Devon Culberson of Boca Raton, step-grandchlldrerr, Derek Thompson and Kristin Thompson of Glen Carbon, the wife of he twin brother, Margaret Weaver of Panama City, Fla; and nieces and nephews. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Grapevine Baptist Church. The Revs. Tommy Lipe, Joe Rice and Harold Ray will officiate.

Burial will be In Clark Cemetery. The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Madison Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. At other limes the family will be at the home of Allon and Anna Belle Silver, 141 Clark Lane, Marshall. Grandson will serve as pallbearers.

EARL MUNSON SCHULTZ JR. HIGHLANDS Earl Munson Schultz 77, of Teague Estate Road, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997 at a Highlands Hospital. Military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Post 108 and VFW Post 7339, at 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Cemetery with Chaplain Ken Carpenter officiating.

ORVES YOUNG POWELL, Tenn. Orves "O.F." Young, 61, of Powell, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, at St. Mary's Hospital of heart disease. Son of O.F.

and Geneva Young, he was born Nov. 27, 1936, In Asheville. He attended Valley Springs High School, East Tennessee State University, Syracuse University and the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. An avid sportsman, he played basketball and baseball throughout high school, college and the Air Force. He spent four years In the Air Force and later became director of housing for the University of Tennessee.

He worked for the Labor Department, and then the Internal Revenue Service, finally opening his own successful tax and accounting service which he ownet and managed with his wife. In recent years, he taught a certified financial planning course at the University of Tennessee. More than anything, he loved to hear or tell a good funny story. He l9 survived by his wife, Louise Tandy Young; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Chris Nelson; son, Phil E. Young; sister, Pat Atklsson; mother, Geneva Young; beloved grandchildren, Ryan and Christibeth Nelson.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Weaver's Chapel on Western Avenue, Knoxville, Tenn. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m. Graveside rites will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Tweed's Chapel Cemetery, Asheville.

Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral I lome. DORIS MEHAFFEY KILUAN MOhNTON, Pa. Doris MeHaf-fey Killian, 57, passed away Thursday, December 18, 1997 following an extended Illness. She was a native of Graham County but she had lived tn Pa. for several years.

She was the daughter of the late R.V. and Mamie Waldroup MeHaffey of Robbinsville, She was preceded In death by her husband John R. "Fritz" Killian Jr. of Mohnton, Pa. He was the owner and president of Little Creek Mill until his death In 1987.

Doris Killian was the founder and partner in Keystone Hosiery until her retirement. She is survived by her daughters, Denise Moody of Robbinsville, Can-dice Steffey of Mohnton, brother, Leonard MeHaffey of Robbinsville; sisters, Iris Parker of Andrews, Gay-nell Dockery of Robbinsville, Cindy Gawann of Reading, and one grandchild, Dillon Moody and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Townson-Smlth chapel. The Rev.

Hollifield, 52, of Nebo, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997 at his residence. A native of McDowell County, he was the son of the late Gary W. Hollifield and Ruth Hollifield Justice. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nebo where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

He was also the Outreach Director. He was a member of Gideons International, McDowell East Camp. He was past master of the Mystic Tie Masonic Lodge 237. He was an evangelist and self employed. He Is survived by his wife, Patsy Elkins Hollifield of the home; daughter, Kimmberly Hollifield Ledford of Spruce Pine; son, Michael Hollifield of the home; sister, Mary Louise Owens-by of Crystal River, brothers, Gary "Johnny" Hollifield of Charlotte and Bobby Ray Hollifield of Nebo; grandsons, Chris and Jeremy Beam; and granddaughter, Amy Ledford.

GOULD Robert S. Gould of Asheville, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, In a Charleston, C. hospital. Mr.

Gould was born Dec. 1, 1942, In New York, N.Y., a son of Harry Gould and Olga Paiewonsky Gould. He was a member of Unitarian Universalis! Church of Asheville. He was presidentCEO of Commandant Gade, a commercial real estate company. He was also a local sculpture artist Is the Asheville area.

He Is survived by his wife, Angela Pupo Gould of Asheville; his mother of St. Thomas, Virgin Island; three daughters, Onna M. Gould of Asheville, Elizabeth B. Gould of Redondo Beach, and Karyn B. Gould of St.

Thomas, Virgin Island; one grandson, Tristan Rosenberg of St. Thomas, V.I. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Unitarian Universalis! Church of Asheville. Burial directed by J.

Henry Stuhr downtown chapel, will be private. GREGORY D. 'GREG' FOMAN Gregory Dale "Greg" Foman of 21 West Chapel Circle died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997. A native of Asheville he was a son of Pauline Jefferson Foman of Asheville and the late Harry James Foman.

He was a graduate of Roberson High School and attended Cecils Junior College. Surviving in addition to his mother are his maternal grandmother, Ada Jefferson; daughter, Tonya Foman; half-sisters, Charlotte Brewton and Janet Mills, all of Asheville; three grandchildren and friends. DMV to give better immigrant service THE ASSOCIATED PRESS RALEIGH The Division of Motor Vehicles says it will take steps to try to improve service to Hispanics and other immigrants. The move comes after complaints by some immigrants, particularly those who speak Spanish, that they have been turned away when applying for driver's licenses because they do not have Social Security numbers.

A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Onney and Mary Riddle Burnette.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don A. Burgln, who passed away on Sept. 25, 1997. Mr. and Mrs.

In 1988, he moved to the United States to become senior vice president of research and development for BASF's Fibers Division. A year Alan later, he moved to New York to take over as a group vice-president of the company's nutrition and cosmetics business unit. He held an honors degree in chemical engineering from the University of Durham. At the time of his death, Mr. Hall had served on the boards of the North Carolina Manufactured Housing Association and the Western North Carolina Manufactured Housing Association.

Mr. Hall Is survived by his beloved Helen Litsas; his two children, Victoria Hall and Adam Hall of London, England; and his parents, Bert and Beatrice Hall of London, England. A memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Thos. Shepherd Son Funeral Directors Church Street Chapel.

BUCK JR. BLACK MOUNTAIN Frederick LeRoy Buck 93, formerly of Wagon Trail, Black Mountain, died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997, In a health care center In Boca Raton, Fla. A native of Erie, he was the son of the late Frederick LeRoy Buck Sr. and Minnie Carson Buck and the wife of the late Katherine "Kay" O'Brien Buck who died In 1993.

He and his life wife lived In Henderson-ville for 28 years before moving to Highland Farms In 1983. He was a graduate of Clarkson University of Pctsdam, N.Y. Ha. was a civil engl- neer and had worked In 13 countries building air fields. One of the projects was the (Canol Project) Alaska Oil Line in WWII.

Survivors are his brother, Carson Buck of Syracuse, N.Y.; 10 nieces and nephews and several grand-nieces and nephews. No local services are planned. Burial will be in Potsdam, N.Y. Penland Funeral Home Is In charge of local arrangements. WALTER NATIONS WHITTIER Walter Nations, 85, died Friday, Dec.

19, 1997, at his residence on Joe Branch Road in the Wil-mot community. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was a member and deacon of the Wilmot Baptist Church. He was the son of the late James Lee and Pearl Denton Nations. He was preceded in death by his brother Jewell Nations and his sisters, Dora Revis and Ida Patterson. Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Florence P.

Nations of the home and his son, Pat Nations of Whittier. Also surviving are two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Wilmot Baptist Church. The Revs.
