SPORTS PEOPLE SCHOLAR ATHLETE Kwame Miller Local Athletes' Feats Philadelphia Football v. hen Miller High School as a freshman, he weighed 535 pounds and, as football coach and athletic director Michael Hawkins said, "He was afraid to fall down on the football field because he didn't thinkhe would beabletoget up." Three years later, Miller, a senior offensive and defensive lineman, is down to 380 pounds on his 6-5 frame and the captain of the Germantown football team. "He's a great kid, works hard," said Hawkins. Miller had ballooned to that 535 pounds after his mother died when he was 12. Fortunately, said Hawkins, who is also dean of students at Germantown, Miller made it a point not only to lose weight, but do well in school.

He has a 3.5 grade point average and is now being recruited by a number of colleges, with Stony Germantown's Kwame Miller is a star on the field and in the classroom. Brook so far his first choice. "Whether he plays football or not, he will be a success in life," Hawkins said. In high school, the three-time national junior champion led Episcopal Academy to the Division I national championship.

He went 20-0 last season at Princeton, a perennial squash powerhouse coached by Episcopal graduate Bob Callahan. His junior-year collegiate season starts next month. Claudia McCarthy Milluille I FieldHockey McCarthy got her 500th victory as Millville High School's field-hockey coach in September, the most in South Jersey history. A 1967 Millville grad, she came to coach just after graduating from Trenton State College in 1971 and has been there since. Her first team had her younger sister on it.

This year's team has her granddaughter, Corrine Et-ter. After her big victory, her 41-year record stood at 500-170. She is fifth on the all-time U.S. victory list. Aaron Wilmer Philadelphia Football Delaware Valley College freshman Wilmer, a former star at George Washington High School, completed 16 of 22 passes for 222 yards and a school-record-tying five touchdowns as the Del Val Aggies scored 58 unanswered points and defeated visiting Stevenson University, 58-13.

Aaron's older brothers, Thomas and Damien, also played. Thomas completed his career last year at Millersville. Damien played at Albright, then transferred to Temple. HOWTO NOMINATE AN ATHLETE.
